Assignment: Legislation Grid and Testimony/Advocacy Statement
As a nurse, how often have you thought to yourself, If I had anything to do about it, things would work a little differently? Increasingly, nurses are beginning to realize that they do, in fact, have a role and a voice.
Many nurses encounter daily experiences that motivate them to take on an advocacy role in hopes of impacting policies, laws, or regulations that impact healthcare issues of interest. Of course, doing so means entering the less familiar world of policy and politics. While many nurses do not initially feel prepared to operate in this space effectively, the reward is the opportunity to shape and influence future health policy. Many nurses see or hear things every day that make them want to be advocates and try to change policies, laws, or rules that affect healthcare issues they care about. Of course, doing so means getting into the world of policy and politics, which is less familiar to them. Even though many nurses don’t feel ready to work in this space at first, the chance to shape and influence future health policy is worth it.

Notes and Comments in General
Mental health problems and addiction to drugs and other substances are health problems that affect a lot of people in the United States. It is important to make changes to the public health service that give hope back to millions of people. The goal of the act is to keep some mental health and drug abuse programs going so that people of all ages can benefit from them.
Part 2: Statement/Testimony on Legislation
The goal of the bill is to keep certain programs for mental health and drug abuse going. The goal is to make sure that people in all 50 states can get mental health care. The way the Covid-19 pandemic is developing shows that more and more people are at risk for mental health problems because they are losing their jobs, living costs are going up, and they may lose their homes and savings (Knopf, 2022). People often turn to alcohol, drugs, and other substances to feel better. The law is needed now because the country needs better mental health care and treatment for people who abuse drugs or alcohol.
I think the law is a good idea because there are millions of people who are at risk of anxiety and depression. By reauthorizing treatment and expanding the care network, deaths that could have been prevented will no longer happen. Reauthorization makes it possible for millions of depressed and suicidal people to get help (Makwana, 2019). Research shows that healthcare services are very important for saving lives, making people’s lives better, and educating them (Knopf, 2022). By giving people with mental disabilities access to health care, the government will be able to reach more people and give them free, professional care.
The different points of view argue about how the money should be spent. First, the goal is to look at mental health and drug, alcohol, and substance abuse in the past to find the weak spots. With more information, you will be able to make a better choice. I’d say that the other side’s argument is insensitive because it doesn’t care about the health of the millions of people who don’t get the health care services meant for people with mental illnesses or who are addicted to alcohol, drugs, or other substances. The law needs support from many different groups in order to improve mental health care and reduce alcohol and drug abuse, especially now that the pandemic is over.
