Purpose:

To analyze a problematic situation inherent to nursing leadership and provide a rational solution which addresses the problem.Guidelines: The BCA will be written using the following guidelines:

Complete a Business Case Analysis (BCA) involving the assigned problem.

2. Background Scenario:A.

Monarch General Hospital has recently experienced a problem with insufficient numbers of nursing personnel to work the 2nd (3:30 PM – 11:30 PM) shift. Although several other facilities have gone to utilizing 12-hour shifts to cover staffing, Monarch General has been reluctant to institute this approach citing disapproval by some of the nursing staff in the past. A debate has ensued to remedy the problem through hiring additional permanent personnel, hiring short-term temporary personnel, pulling personnel from other underutilized units, or paying overtime and bonuses to current employees.

3. Assignment:A.

Your assignment is to complete a BCA which addresses each of the following headings :· Introduction (10%)-This is a brief introduction to the scenario and what will be discussed in your paper· Background (10%) – Discuss the global background of the problem· Business and Operational Impacts (15%)- Discuss how the staffing shortage impacts the unit business (financial) and operations (day to day work)· Options and Cost/Benefit Analysis (15%)- Describe 2 potential solutions and discuss the costs and benefits of each option· Recommendations (10%)- Discuss which option you feel is best and give your rationale for the choice· Implementation Strategy and Review and Approval Process and Summary (15%)- Describe how you would implement your recommendation and the steps and chain of command for approval· Conclusion (5%) – a conclusion paragraph for the paper

4. Procedures:A.

Explore the assigned problem (see scenario). Access the library databases and conduct a literature search to find evidence based/best practice remedies for the assigned problem.

B. Your BCA should include a minimum of four references from either nursing journals or business journals that are pertinent to the problem assigned.

C. Complete the BCA with at least four references beyond your textbook.

5. The paper should between 5- 6 pages, excluding title and reference page. The paper should be double spaced following APA guidelines and Zero Plagiarism.
