The ACA prevented insurance companies from denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, and it changed the age a child to stay on their parents plan to 26, it also removed benefit limits on insurance, and made preventative care at no cost service to the patient.The most important role is to provide coverage for all citizens. It allows people to obtain care and not have high out-of-pocket costs. It promotes primary prevention through preventative care. The system also rewards people for having health coverage. Patients are rewarded through tax breaks for providing proof of coverage each year, and physicians are rewarded for meeting goals in patient care.As a nurse it is our responsibility to make sure patients are properly educated on the services available to them. We can promote primary prevention, through education.
