1. Individual Paper—Topic: AACN Competencies
Suggested Topics:

§ Ageism, exploring societies prejudices and biases toward the elder population.

§ Choose a theory or model related to gerontologic nursing and related it to the care of an elderly patient you have cared for.

§ Choose a theory or model and write about how that theory or model can be used to promote wellness with age-related changes in the elderly.

§ Sexually transmitted infections in the elderly population. Include statistics, incidents, contributing factors, patient education needs, and treatment adherence issues.

 

Assignment Instructions:

1. Construct a 4-7 page APA-formatted paper (not including title and reference pages).

· Include at a minimum the use of Level 1 & Level 2 headings.

1. Interpret and analyze the following bolded topics and subtopics (required) to guide the flow of discussion in your paper:

· Identify local, state, and national resources which facilitate safe and effective transitions of care for older adults with this topic

· 8-11 points: Minimally addresses the topic, missing key points about its importance or impact on elderly care.

· 0-7 points: Does not adequately introduce or define the topic.

 

 

2. Literature Review (35 points)

· 35 points: Presents a comprehensive review of 3-5 current peer-reviewed journal articles (published within the last 5 years). Synthesizes key findings effectively, with clear relevance to the topic.

· 30-34 points: Provides a solid review of 3-5 articles, with minor omissions in synthesis or relevance.

· 25-29 points: Includes a basic review of articles but lacks depth in analysis or synthesis of findings.

· 15-24 points: Reviews fewer than 3 articles or includes irrelevant or poorly synthesized sources.

· 0-14 points: Does not provide an adequate literature review or fails to use peer-reviewed sources.

4. Impact on Elderly Care Across Settings (35 points)

· 35 points: Provides an insightful discussion on how the topic affects care in various settings (e.g., home care, long-term care, hospitals). Includes specific examples and demonstrates thorough understanding.

· 30-34 points: Discusses the topic’s impact across care settings with minor omissions or less specific examples.

· 25-29 points: Provides a basic discussion of the topic’s impact but lacks depth or specificity.

· 15-24 points: Minimally discusses the topic’s impact, with unclear or unsupported points.

· 0-14 points: Does not adequately address the topic’s impact on elderly care.
