This week, you will submit the one- to two-page executive summary that you started last week. This summary is for the owner of Don & Associates, where you are employed in this scenario.

Use this Executive Summary Template. In the template, you will see specific instructions. Delete the instruction text before you submit the project.

Your summary should include:

  • the types of cloud computing (private, public, hybrid)
  • three major cloud service providers
  • three cloud computing service models
  • potential benefits and risks of migrating the company’s technical infrastructure to the cloud

Be sure to cite any sources you use.

How Will My Work Be Evaluated?

For this assignment, you are asked to provide your supervisor with a summary of cloud computing and the potential benefits and risks of migrating to the cloud. By summarizing your findings in a brief executive summary, you are showing how you use your technical knowledge to convey your ideas to others in a professional setting. Your ability to express your findings using the right mix of technical detail in a business context is an important workplace skill.

The following evaluation criteria aligned to the competencies will be used to grade your assignment:

1. Should dissatisfied consumers have the right to establish gripe sties that use the trademark of the offending company in the domain name? The goal of this project is to demonstrate your ability to use common applications to communicate and store information. You will use your IoT design and plan for this assignment. Now that you have learned how to use email, web browsers, and productivity software, you can start to apply those skills.

  1. First, you will use Microsoft Word to create a professional proposal document that is intended for some potential investors of your idea. It will need to be a comprehensive report using various formatting and styles. It should have clearly defined sections, images, and supporting tables and charts with data (fictional but realistic) regarding cost and other considerations. Apply as many of the concepts you learned in the tutorials as are reasonable to make this proposal look and feel professional.
  2. Next, you will use Microsoft Excel to continue the proposal by created spreadsheets with formulas and formatting to enhance the proposal. Whatever data you wish to invent and provide, there must be actual formulas used to calculate in the spreadsheet. You must also have both absolute and relative cell references, and at least one function. You will need to be sure to reference the spreadsheet in your proposal as an attachment or appendix. Remember this is part of a professional package that is intended for your investors! Make it look polished!
  3. Then, you will create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation that gives a solid overview of your proposal and spreadsheets. There should be charts and tables derived from your Excel spreadsheet data, as well as information and images relating to your Word document inserted into the presentation. You must also apply themes, animations, and transitions to your work.
  4. Once your three artifacts are complete, reviewed, and polished, you will create a single folder in your OneDrive titled Module 3 Artifacts to store these items and upload them there.
    1. Create a shared link to this folder.  Your link MUST be accessible.  The permissions must be set to “anyone with a link can view.”  This is one-third of your score for this assignment.
    2. Draft an “email to your investors” (me). In a professional, business-like tone, you will ask them to review your documents via the link consider your proposal in so many words. DO NOT COPY the previous sentence and assume that is enough for the body of the email.  Your email must contain the link to your files!
    3. Attach a copy of your three artifacts and the email in the project submission link above.

Other than the fact that the title of the course contains both Business Intelligence AND Data Analytics, these two concepts seem like separate things, right?

Well that’s what this week’s discussion is going to find out.

While we won’t address data visualization in depth in this course, data visualization is never very far from any discussion of data analytics, so I’d like everyone (ALL students, not just the initial post group) to get acquainted with Google’s Ngram Viewer: https://books.google.com/ngrams.

Basically the Ngram Viewer allows you to see a graph of the occurrence of a given word or phrase over a specified period of years in the entire corpus of books contained in the Google Books collection.  You can also enter several words or phrases to compare the evolution of usage over time.  The default (sample) ngram on the day I visited was a comparison of

Albert Einstein,Sherlock Holmes,Frankenstein

which resulted in

Your tasks and the discussion topic(s) this week:

1. ALL students should use Ngram and try various combinations of

  • business intelligence,
  • data analytics,
  • data science.

You  might try allied terms like

  • data analysis,
  • big data.

Be sure to change the years, you’ll definitely want to include through to the current year and I think you’ll quickly find that years before 1900 (sometimes later) don’t show much.  Think about what the graph is showing you in terms of the usage of these various terms.  Be aware that even if you enter the current year, Ngram may change that year depending on the data available (currently, it seems to ‘default’ to 2008 as the most recent year available).

2. INITIAL POST GROUP: in addition to the Ngram exercise, members of the initial post group should also conduct a web search for definitions of at least business intelligence and data analytics.  I’m sure you’ll find more than a few sites willing to compare the two.   The topic this week:

Compare and contrast the terms business intelligence and data analytics.  That is, how are they similar, how are they different?

You should include in your initial post a brief discussion of the Ngram findings AND a brief discussion of your search for definitions.
