Write an Erlang program that counts the word frequencies in the file assign3-part2.txt. Erlang uses a list of tuples as a hash table. Write four Erlang functions.

  1. This function has a string file name parameter and returns a list of words in the file. Open the file with file:open. The file lab3-part2.txt was written in a text editor as one line, so io:get_line will read the whole file. string:tokens will separate it into words. Its second argument specifies all the delimiters.
    • file:open(lab3-part2.txt”,read).
    • L1= io:get_line(S, '').
  2. This function has two parameters, a string word and a list of tuples, and returns a list of tuples with the word added appropriately. Each tuple is a word key and a frequency value. The lists:keyfind method will find a tuple if it exists and return false if it does not. If the word is not found use lists:append to add a tuple with the word as key and 1 as the frequency. If the word is found use lists:replace to replace the tuple with a new tuple with frequency increased by one.
  3. This function has a list of words as parameter and returns a hash table of tuples of words and their frequencies. The string:to_lower method will make a word lower case to provided the desired case insensitivity. Use the lists:foldl method to build the answer using the function 2.
  4. This function outputs the final hash table sorted by frequency from high to low using the lists:sort function. Its one parameter is the file name. It uses functions 3 and 1.

Psychological Effects of Modern Technology on Children’s Development

  

Modern technology has permeated all domains of society and transformed lifestyles. Overuse or irresponsible use of modern technology, however, has the potential for undermining the psychological well-being of children due to elevated risk of depression and isolation. The nature and extent of the use of the technology underpin the concerns over their implications for the development of children.

The elevated risk of depression due to modern technology has serious implications for children’s development. According to Hoge et al. (2017), some modern technology such as the Internet, notably interactive social media platforms, lead to depression in children in the absence of adequate skills to regulate emotion. In this regard of assignment help service, children without sufficient social support to develop such skills are at greater risk of experiencing the negative effects of modern technology on their development than those with adequate support. Appropriate measures to equip children with relevant skills can help to avert these effects.

Like depression, isolation is a serious effect of the technology. Some modern technology applications push users closer to virtual friends, leading to social isolation (Taheri, 2013). Such users may feel that they are more valued in the realm of modern technology than outside. The resultant inclination toward communication tools encourages social isolation. In children, social isolation fosters behavior that hinders the development of skills needed for success in this stage of life (Chassin et al., 2016). This effect of modern technology can undermine the present and future wellbeing of children (writing help).

The likelihood of developing depression and social isolation reflects the psychological downsides of modern technology on children’s development. Modern technology makes important contributions to the development of children, but the negative effects on development and their serious implications for undermining the wellbeing of children are concerning. Society should adopt appropriate measures to avert these effects while exploiting the positive contributions of modern technology on children’s development.

  1. Create a program that will model a music playlist by using an ArrayList that holds Song objects.
  2. Using jGRASP, write a Java program named LastnameFirstname14.java, using your last name and your first name, that does the following:
    • Uses an ArrayList to model a music playlist.
    • Uses Song objects to represent songs in the playlist, with the following instance variables:
      • Title
      • Artist
      • Minutes
      • Seconds
      • Note: Your toString should print minutes and seconds together (see possible examples below in the Expected Output section)
    • Create a method called createPlaylist. Create an ArrayList of at least 5 songs of your choice. Return the ArrayList.
    • Create a method called editPlaylist. An ArrayList of Song objects will be passed to this method. In this method, ask the user if they would like to add or remove a song to the playlist, or if they change their mind and don’t want to add/remove any songs.
      • If they choose to add a song, ask them for the song information. Create a Song object and add it to the ArrayList.
      • If they choose to remove a song, print out the ArrayList in a readable format — in other words, don’t just use “System.out.println(playlist);” (see below for Example Output).
      • If they change their mind and do not want to add/remove a song, don’t change anything.
      • Return the ArrayList.
      • Note: I recommend you use a loop here so that the user can add/remove as many songs as they like. This makes for a better, more useful program, but it is not required for this assignment.
    • Create a method called savePlaylist. This playlist will have two parameters: the ArrayList and an indicator for whether the user would like to append to or overwrite a file. In the file, record the date that the playlist was saved, then write the ArrayList information to the file in a readable format — in other words, don’t just use “System.out.println(playlist);”. Confirm to the user that the file was successfully saved, and print the filename or filepath.
    • In the main method:
      • Call the createPlaylist method, then print the returned ArrayList. Make sure to print it out in a readable format — in other words, don’t just use “System.out.println(playlist);” (see below for Example Output).
      • Ask the user if they would like to edit your playlist. If so, call the editPlaylist method and print the returned ArrayList.
      • Ask the user if they would like to save the playlist. If so, call the savePlaylist method.
  3. Your program MUST:
    • Create at least 5 Song objects, all with valid data
    • Store the Song objects in an ArrayList
    • Use the printPlaylist method to write out the data for all Song objects in your ArrayList to a separate text file in a neatly arranged format.
    • Actively use in-line comments stating what each section of code does.
    • Use try/catch if, and only if, necessary.
  4. Your program must conform to the Java coding standards reviewed in class during Week 3.
  5. Your program should not use code/concepts we have not yet covered. You must demonstrate that you have mastered the concepts covered in class.
  6. Remember to always begin your code with the following documentation comments:
