Assignment

Throughout this course, you will be learning about object-oriented programming and demonstrating what you learn by writing some programs in Java. The first step will be to install and integrated development environment (IDE) that will be where you will write and compile your programs. You will also write your first program using Java to show that you have correctly installed the IDE.The project instructions and deliverables are as follows:Download and install Java JDK and NetBeans IDE using the default installation options.  Run the IDE, and take a screenshot.  Create a console program that prompts the user to enter the name and address of their employer and position they hold or the name and address of their favorite restaurant and their favorite meal.  Display this information on the screen, each on a separate line.  Run your modified program and take a screenshot of the results.  Create a document in Word, and add the following:  Title page which includes: CourseNumber, CourseSection, CourseName, ProjectName (Unit 1 IP), StudentName and Date.  Screen shots showing the IDE running.  Screen shot showing the program’s output. A customer that you were recently introduced to is considering beginning an RFP process to replace the solution they’ve had for 8 years and that we acquired 2 years ago. What questions would you ask to better understand the situation?  How could you turn this into an upsell opportunity?  Please provide at least five examples of exploratory topics you would want to gather more data around, and how you would use that gathered information to craft a business storyline around the value that can be gained from your solution.

Initial Post Requirement (20 points):  Minimum 300 words. Choose one of the odd-numbered (#1, #3, #5, #7, or #9) discussion questions located at the end of Chapter 13, CPM 4e and write a discussion post in response.  You must include at least one citation (in text) and a reference list in support of your discussion.  

Response Post Requirement (10 points):  Minimum 150 words.  In the response post, you will provide a counter opinion or alternative point of view, not simply a reaffirmation of the initial discussion post.  The response post can rely entirely on your experience or it can be a combination of your experience supplemented with information learned from the course reading materials and other references.

Assessment: You will be assessed on 1) content and 2) completeness (e.g., use of in-text citation of references used for summarizing, paraphrasing and quoting and other writing mechanics) and word count.

Guidance:  See the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL) website for guidance on citations and references.   A copy of the Purdue OWL citation chart is provided in the course home page (Moodle).  Discussion forum content can include a combination of material from literature and your own personal experience.  Do some research and find papers that are associated with the topic of the question.  It is recommended that you use the materials provided in this course and the assigned readings in CPM 4e and the PMBOK 6e for references when appropriate for the question you’ve chosen.  Online blogs are not acceptable references.
