You have been hired as part of the networking team at UMUC. After completing orientation and training, your manager calls you into a meeting to discuss your first project.

The university has recently leased a single building in Adelphi, Maryland. The building will house faculty and administrative offices, classrooms, a library, and computer labs. After speaking to your manager, you are excited about the project, but you realize you will have a busy schedule. As you are writing your proposal, you will also have to prepare for the CompTIA Network+ Certification exam. One of the conditions of your employment at this university is that you obtain this certification within 60 days of being hired.

The network proposal represents a great opportunity to document your expertise. It is also an opportunity for you to gain an integrated view of the different aspects of networking that you will be asked about in the certification exam.

In this learning demonstration, you will use the TestOut Network Pro (LabSim) to learn about the topics required to achieve success for each submission (i.e., network design, network addressing and security, and network customization and optimization). These activities will help prepare you for the CompTIA Network+ Certification exam. To identify your strengths and weaknesses in the first week, you will complete the CompTIA Network+ Certification Practice exam. During the next eight weeks, as you go through each set of activities in TestOut LabSim, you will draft sections of your network design proposal.

Use the results of the Network+ Certification Practice exam to identify the areas within TestOut LabSim you should spend more time studying. You must complete all labs in TestOut LabSim. (These are the activities marked with the computer mouse icon.) You should submit your network design proposal in three sections: 1) network design, 2) network addressing and security, and 3) network customization and optimization. SCENARIO

Inventory and Payroll are two of the most common uses for Excel. For the first Excel file you will create an Inventory spreadsheet based on the given scenario. For the second excel spreadsheet you will create a payroll based ion the given scenario.

The Inventory scenario is based on a fictitious custom bike builder. Of course, the data given for the scenario is a small sampling of what a shop’s inventory would be. The data represents an end of month quantity and is being used to determine, the balance on hand and which items need to be reorder, if any.

The Payroll scenario is, of course, also just a snapshot of the calculations needed for a company’s payroll.

In an Excel file named Inventory create three sheets named Inventory, Bikes_Made, and Items_Used. Input the data given here. (You should use the previous year for the date.) In addition to the columns given in the inventory data table, add three more columns on your sheet named Balance on Hand, Value of Inventory, and Reorder.

Create a simple formula to calculate the Value of Inventory and complex formulas using the using the data from the three separate sheets to calculate the balance on hand whether the balance on hand is enough, or it is time to reorder the item. If it is time to reorder the item, the cell should contain the word REORDER and the cell should be filled with the color red.

Your first task is to visualize an UFO sightseeing data set.

  2. Import & Visualize the Data Create a map using Leaflet that plots all of the UFO sightseeing from your data set based on city and state

Level 2: More Data 

Plot a second data set on your map to illustrate the relationship between military base locations and UFO sightseeing locations. You will need to pull in a second data set and visualize it along side your original set of data. Data on military base locations is attached. 

  • Plot a second data set on our map.
  • Add a number of base maps to choose from as well as separate out our two different data sets into overlays that can be turned on and off independently.
  • Add layer controls to our map.
    • Your data markers should reflect the location of the UFO sightseeing in their size and color. UFO sight seeing with more frequency should appear larger and darker in color.
    • Include popups that provide summary about the UFO sightseeing from the report when a marker is clicked.
    • Create a legend that will provide context for your map data.
    • Your visualization should look something like the map above.
