Online Final Exam History 7 Spring 2021

September 10, 2025/in General Questions /by Besttutor

Section 1: Primary Source Identification and Analysis (20 points)

Identify and analyze the four (4) primary documents from the documents assigned in The American Yawp Reader (Chapters 23-30) by answering the five questions listed below for each document. Each source identification is worth 5 points for a total of 20 points. Answer all five questions for each document together in one paragraph. (1 document, 5 sentences, 5 points).

1.   Who wrote the document? (Include the name of the author and explain who they were in terms of class, age, race, etc.)

2.   When was the document created? (Include the date but provide context – an explanation of what was going on at that time)

3.   What type of document is it? (Speech, diary, etc.)

4.   What is the main point of the document? What is the author’s thesis?

5.   Why is this document significant to historians – meaning what can we learn from this document that is specific to understanding the era in which it was written?

The four documents to analyze are:Huey P. Long, “Every Man a King” and “Share Our Wealth” 1934 (Chapter 23)

Congressman Arthur L. Miller Gives “the Putrid Facts” About Homosexuality 1950 (Chapter 26)

Statements of AIDS patients (Chapter 29)

9/11 Commission Report 2004 (Chapter 30)

Section 2: Essays (80 points)

Students will write TWO essays for the final exam. Each essay is worth 40 points. Use the lecture modules on Canvas and The American Yawp textbook to develop your essays. If you use additional resources, provide citations (any format is acceptable). The work and arguments you produce should BE YOUR OWN! You should plan to spend approximately two hours (try not to spend more than that) actually writing the exam. The completed essays are to be turned in via Canvas.Focus on the chapters in the textbook The American Yawp which cover The Great Depression (Chapter 23) to The Recent Past (Chapter 30).A.  Choose three events that you believe exemplify/clearly illustrate the Cold War as it was fought over four decades.  Explain the historical significance of each, why you have chosen them as well as the meaning of the term “Cold War.” What accounts for the end of the Cold War? When and why does it occur? Be sure to include events, people and ideas that illustrate the end to this ideological war with the Soviet Union.B.  The Civil Rights Movement gained momentum in the 1950s and exploded in the 1960s. Explain why the movement finally took off in the 1950s. What caused it to do so? Be sure to clearly define what is meant by the term “Civil Rights Movement” and the various groups (not only African American) which were participants in it. Where is the movement by the end of the 1960s/beginning of the 1970s? How did the activities of earlier generations influence movements today (like Black Lives Matter)?

art History

September 10, 2025/in General Questions /by Besttutor

The purpose of the project is to demonstrate your understanding of course content and your ability to communicate that understanding clearly. The project also provides you space to reflect on and think about your own learning strengths and weaknesses in this class.

A. What Mastery You Have to Demonstrate:

This project asks you to demonstrate that you understand our course content. You will need to demonstrate that you understand each of the below eras/concepts:

1. Influences and major characteristics of 14th century art in Italy, identifying key examples.

2. Influences and major characteristics of 15th century art in Northern Europe, identifying key examples.

3. Influences and major characteristics of 15th century art in Italy, identifying key examples.

4. Influences and major characteristics of 16th century art in Northern Europe, identifying key examples.

5. Influences and major characteristics of 16th century art in Italy, identifying key examples.

B. How to Demonstrate This Knowledge:

You are tasked with writing an essay for each of the 5 bullet points you see above. Each essay will be two pages-double spaced (The font must be Times New Roman and 12 point size). Make sure your essays reach the bottom of the second page. If your essay is a page and half you will lose points. Two pages means to pages, not one and a half.

As you will notice above, the guidelines ask that you identify influence and major characteristics for each century and region (each bullet points), and that you discuss examples. What ill be grading for is that you’ve identified 3 characteristics for each century and region. Characteristics include ways in which we can separate 15th Century Italian art as different from 16th century Northern art. An example of a characteristic for 15th North would include symbolism.

After you identify a characteristic, you need to talk about how and where you see that characteristic occurring inside of a work of art. So if you use symbolism as an influence, discuss a painting with symbolism and where the symbolism is happening. So to reiterate, you are not finding one work of art that fits all three characteristics, you are picking a work of art for each characteristic you identify in each essay. So three examples in each essay.

The last thing you have to talk about in each essay is at least one influence . Influences are outside factors that affected the artists and their art, such as historical events or important people. For instance, for 16th North, Martin Luther would be an influence. In your essay you would talk about Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation and how exactly it affected art. ARTISTS DO NOT COUNT AS INFLUENCES, as they were just as effected by the influence as their art.

C. How to Succeed on This Project:

1. There is NO reason to do ANY extra research. Use our readings and in-class activities as the basis for your project! Don’t re-invent the wheel.

2. DO NOT PUT IMAGES IN YOUR ESSAYS.

  Unsatisfactory = 0-2 Developing = 3 Advancing = 4 Proficient = 5
Completeness

Fewer than 70% of the required elements are addressed in the project. At least 80% of the required elements are addressed in the project. At least 90% of the required elements are addressed in the project. All elements (100%) are addressed in the project.
Communication of Ideas Project is confusing and unclear. Communication skills need significant improvement—there were notable challenges in making meaning of the project. Some of the project is confusing and unclear. Communication skills need some improvement—there were some challenges in making meaning of the project. The project is predominately informative and expressed relatively clearly—there were minor improvements needed to make meaning of the project. The project is informative and clearly communicated—with no improvements needed to make meaning of the project.
Understanding of Course Competencies The project does not demonstrate a clear understanding of the content. There were significant errors and/or gaps in understanding the key concepts. The project demonstrates a rudimentary, developing understanding of content. Some parts of the project included errors and/or gaps in understanding the key concepts. The project demonstrates a more advanced understanding of key concepts. Some evidence of confusion or misunderstanding of concepts exist at times. The project demonstrate a thorough, proficient understanding of key concepts.
Depth/Quality of reflection on course content Reflection on course content is superficial.

Reflection on course content is rudimentary, with some significant gaps in understanding of course content. Reflection of course content is more advanced—with some realistic critical analysis of course content. Reflection of course content is thorough, realistic and constructive. Analysis and understanding of concept is proficient.

WEEK SEVEN SHORT RESPONSES

First, we’d like you to do some reading to gain a fuller picture of the relationship between Natives and settlers:

· And the Strife Never Ends: Indian-White Hostility As Seen By European Travelers in America, 1800 – 1860: A brief article about the way contemporary Europeans viewed the ongoing conflict between Natives and the American government. You can read it at this link. This reading is required.

(Link To Article: https://www.academia.edu/44623382/_And_the_Strife_Never_Ends_Indian_White_Hostility_as_Seen_by_European_Travelers_in_America_1800_1860_)

· Owning Red: A Theory of Indian (Cultural) Appropriation: An article about the long history of “cultural appropriation” of Native land, artifacts, property, and other cultural resources by white society. Section II, “Indian Appropriation” (pages 869 – 891) details the legal history of conflicts between Natives and non-Natives over land and other property. You can read it at this link. Pages 869 – 891 of this reading are required.

· (Link To Article: https://scholar.law.colorado.edu/articles/4/)

Question 1: Name three historical lenses that you could apply to gain a fuller picture of the relationship between Natives and white settlers.

Question 2: Revise the thesis statement at the top of this page to reflect a more complex view of the relationship between Natives and white settlers.

Your revised thesis statement should be longer than one sentence.

The video transcript is attached to the question.

The history surrounding the perhaps real, perhaps apocryphal “harvest feast” between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag is a complex story in several different ways. The following questions will help you develop your understanding of the concept of historical complexity. Be sure to respond to these questions in one to two sentences, using proper grammar.

Question 3: Name three historical lenses that you could use to look at the events described in the video you just saw.

Question 4: Massasoit’s decision to approach the Pilgrims about an alliance was contingent on what previous event or events? (Name one or two.)

Question 5: Name one short-term consequence and one long-term consequence of the alliance between the Wampanoag and the Pilgrims.

Because historical events are complex, they are often misunderstood. Only with research and analysis can we move past those misunderstandings and get at the historical truth.

Take some time to think about the historical event you’ve chosen to analyze in this course and how your understanding of it may have changed over the last seven weeks. As you answer the question below, please be sure to include a brief description of your historical event. Be sure to respond to the question in two to three sentences, using proper grammar.

Question 6: How has your understanding of the historical event in your essay changed as a result of your research? Describe one instance of a misconception or a wrong idea you had about your topic that has been corrected after researching and writing about it.

The Cherokee Removal, and the tragic westward journey along the Trail of Tears, is one of the most sorrowful events in American history. But it is also one of the most complex. The following questions ask you to think about the Cherokee Removal in the way a historian would. Be sure to respond to each question in two to three sentences, using proper grammar.

Question 7: Name four historical lenses through which you could analyze the events of the Cherokee Removal. Specify one aspect of this event for each lens that you cite.

Question 8: Agree or disagree with the following thesis statement: “The Treaty of New Echota was invalid, and the National Party was correct to oppose

Course Paper Anthro 120 – Fall 2021

For this assignment you will be writing about the topic of “race” as discussed in this class’s

readings and video. In order to write this paper, you will need to use the following three sources from our class (all of these sources are posted under Week 7 on Beachboard):

Readings: Gould, Stephen J. The Mismeasure of Man. Article 8

Harris, Marvin. Race, human variation, and the forces of evolution. Article 9

Film: Race: The Power of an Illusion (Vol. 1). You may view the video at the following weblink:

https://capture.udel.edu/media/RaceA+The+Power+of+an+Illusion%2C+Ep.+1A+The+Dif ference+Between+us/1_de7u5ihx/180544301

In your paper you will be discussing examples from both of the readings listed above as well as

from the film. You will be required to incorporate a minimum of three in-text citations (specific examples) from the Stephen J. Gould article (article 8) and to also utilize a minimum of another three in- text citations (specific examples) from the Marvin Harris article (article 9). Furthermore, you will also be expected to cite at least three examples from the video. Therefore, in total you must discuss nine examples in your course paper: three from the Gould article, three from the Harris article and three from the video.

1. In the first half of your paper, you will be discussing nine examples (three from the Gould

reading, three from the Harris reading and three from the film), discussing why it makes no sense from a biological perspective to divide up the human population into separate human races. You need to discuss the evidence that there is just one single human race, rather than separate human races from a biological standpoint. Or, to put it another way, you need to discuss why the view that there exist several separate human “races” is not biologically real. Instead, there is, from a biological perspective, only one human race. In order to do this you will be using the nine examples you have chosen from the two articles and the film.

2. However, in the second half of your paper you will be discussing why you believe that the concept of “race” and the popular view that humans are divisible into separate human races (despite the scientific evidence to the contrary) is still widely used in our society today. Unlike the first half of this assignment, the second half of the paper is going to be at least partially based on your own opinions and experiences. And you may refer to your own life experiences when writing up the second half of this paper.

The minimum word count for this assignment is 1,000 words. Your final paper should be

double-spaced, use a size 10–12 font with reasonably sized margins (1.0”-1.5” margins). Spelling and grammar are important to any paper and if you have significant grammar and spelling mistakes, they will detract from your final score. Please use spell check!

Paper Due Dates: A Rough Draft/ Outline of your paper needs to be submitted Week 12, no later than

11:59 pm on Saturday, Nov. 13. You will submit your rough draft or paper outline in Dropbox on our Beachboard website. At minimum, your rough draft must clearly state the nine examples you will be incorporating into the final version of the paper.

The Final, complete version of your paper needs to be submitted during Week 15, and no

later than Saturday, Dec. 4 at 11:59 pm You will also be submitting your final paper in Dropbox on our Beachboard website. Please include a word count as well as your name and student ID# on your paper. (The minimum word count for this paper is 1000 words). Also, you must attach a works cited (bibliography page) to the final version of your paper. How to properly use in-text citations. For this assignment you are required to use a minimum of three in-text citations from the Gould article (reading #8), at least another three in-text citations from the Harris article (reading #9) and also at least three references to the video. (You may use more than three citations/references from each source if you wish). When you cite examples from these sources, you must use the poper in- text citation format. Some examples of a properly formatted in-text citation are the following: French scientist Paul Broca claimed Europeans were…… (Gould 1981, give a specific page number). According to Marvin Harris, IQ tests are not reliable because……. (Harris 1993, give a specific page number). The video stated that mtDNA …. (Adelman 2003, timestamp). Bibliography Page Your final paper will need to include a bibliography or works cited page for the two articles and the video you referenced in your paper. If you reference any additional sources you will need to also include those on your bibliography page. The format used for the bibliography page is different from the format used in your in-text citations. Your bibliography page must include the following: Adelman, Larry. 2003. Race: The Power of an Illusion. California Newsreel. Harris, Marvin. 1993. “Race, human variation, and the forces of evolution”. Chapter 6 in

Culture, People, Nature 6th ed. New York: Harper Collins College Publishers, pp. 33-51.
