This module/week focuses on questions of education policy. The focus will shift from public schools to vouchers for private schools to the alternative of homeschooling. The same question that can be asked about the government’s role in the category of social justice can be asked about the government’s role in education.

This exercise provides a review of the key Biblical and Constitutional principles which inform the May analysis for education policy

For this Discussion Board Forum, interact in a free-flowing discussion of the biblical and constitutional parameters for the particular policy focus being discussed this module/week. In other words, you must discuss the “May” portion of the “May-Can-Should” approach to policy analysis and implementation. Engage the ideas of your classmates and the required readings and presentations in a meaningful and thoughtful manner.

Remember to provide thoughts on what government should or should not do from a biblical and constitutional perspective. Also discuss what other groups, individuals, and organizations (possibly including state and local government) should be doing within society to address the policy issues discussed in this module/week.

1. Kellerman names over 30 examples of unearned benefits that Christians experience and that people of other religions and secular people do not.  How do you and your classmates or friends or neighbors experience Christian privilege or its absence – even noting whether or not the people you talk with are aware of this factor in everyday life.
2. A number of the chapters in this Section focus specifically on the way that religion impacts race. In fact, Bayoumi states in selection #48 that religion is an important factor in shaping how people perceive race – racializing members of minority religious groups, but ignoring the racial identities of majority religious groups. What evidence does he give to make this assertion? Do you agree with him?
3. How do the readings in selections # 47, 51, 52, and 54 illustrate intersections between religious oppression and racism? Provide specific examples and explanations.

First, applying what you just learned about narrowing research questions, revise your research questions from your Topic Exploration Worksheet.

Explain how you approached revising your research questions to assist your instructor in understanding your approach. This will help you draft an introduction to a hypothetical research paper with a strong thesis statement.

Finally, applying what you have learned about comparing primary sources and analyzing secondary sources, do a deeper dive into the primary sources you listed in Part 3 of your Topic Exploration Worksheet to help you start your research plan. Describe what these sources add to your understanding of your selected topic.
