You also have the opportunity to select one nursing theory or model discussed in this course for an in-depth analysis. Analysis of the theory coupled with application to a clinical scenario is intended to demonstrate the relevance of nursing theories to professional practice.

Purpose:

This assignment is designed to allow the student an opportunity to complete an in-depth analysis of a nursing theory/model. Analysis of the theory coupled with application to a clinical scenario is intended to demonstrate the relevance of nursing theories to professional practice.

Despite elimination of measles in the United States, outbreaks associated with imported measles continue to occur. There have been several cases reported, the initiation of a measles outbreak seems to be associated with an imported case occurring in our country. Discuss quarantine and isolation to control measles in a population with low vaccine coverage. Your response must include the following information:
1. Is there treatment for measles?
2. How is measles spread and passed to others?

Post a brief description of the situation you experienced and explain how incorporating or not incorporating patient preferences and values impacted the outcome of their treatment plan. What is an annotated bibliography? 

An annotation is a summary and/or evaluation. An annotated bibliography includes the bibliographic citation and a summary and/or evaluation of each of the sources. For this assignment you are asked to provide both a summative and evaluative paragraph.

Professional Practice Model

Many health care systems use a Professional Practice Model (PPM) rather than or in addition to a nursing theoretical framework to provide a foundation that exemplifies nursing practice in that facility. The PPM provides clarity for decision making, for directing change, and for sustaining authentic relationships between disciplines and with patients and families. The PPM provides focus for evaluation of structures, processes, and outcomes. It can be instrumental in generating new ideas and approaches. Effective use of a PPM helps nurses establish professional identity and results in higher job satisfaction. Effective PPMs have also been linked to excellence in nursing practice, which results in improved outcomes for patients and families.

Purpose:  The purpose of this assignment is to identify a PPM that is used by a specific healthcare system and describe its components and how they affect the nursing profession and patient care.

Instructions:

· Research and choose a health care system that uses a professional practice model that describes the environment for professional nursing practice.

· Prepare and present write-ups that:

· Describe the healthcare system (number of facilities, location, patient beds, specialty [if any]).

· Provide a general overview of the PPM adopted or developed by the healthcare system (some systems use an already developed PPM, and others create their own PPM to meet their individualized needs).

· Describe the components of the PPM

 For example—professional values, leadership and governance structures, professional relationships and development of nurses.

 Present a short critique of the PPM.  Things to consider:

 Does it clearly provide a framework for nursing practice?

 Does it clearly provide a basis for delivery of holistic patient care?

1 . Ralph, a college student, borrow his roommate’s car to drive to his aunt’s funeral. On the way back, he falls asleep at the wheel, veers off the road, and rolls down an embankment. Though he emerges unhurt, the car is a total wreck. Because the car is 5 years old the roommate has no collision insurance. Ralph is sorry about the accident  but feels no responsibility or paying his roommate what the car was worth.

Does he have any moral responsibility to do so?

2. A 16-year-old girl and their father were arrested in Panama City, Florida for allegedly trying to sell the girl’s unborn baby for a 10 year old car and $500. Although selling babies is against the law, the two presumably felt that they had the moral right to do so.

Is their feeling morally defensible?
