Leadership and Managing

This week you reflected upon the difference between a “manager” and a “leader” and discussed this concept with your classmates and professor in the discussion board. In a written essay please answer the following questions:

• What are the differences between leaders and managers? What characteristics are similar and what are different?
• Provide a total of three examples. First, of someone who has great managerial skills. Second, another individual with great leadership skills. Third, another person with poor managerial skills. These can be made up individuals or examples you have seen without any identifying information. Discuss how the staff of each individual would be affected by the skills of the leader/manager.
• Complete the Emotional Intelligence Test Discuss your scores and what they mean. What did you learn about yourself as a leader? (Note that a 10 on the EI test means strong. On the score page, click on the blue “here” under “interpreting your GEIT scores, click here” for more information on each section and what it means. 

Assignment Expectations:

Length: 1500 to 2000 words total (at least 500 words per question prompt)

Structure: Include a title page and reference page in APA format. These do not count towards the minimum word count for this assignment. Your essay must include an introduction and a conclusion.

References: Use appropriate APA style in-text citations and references for all resources utilized to answer the questions. A minimum of three (3) scholarly sources are required for this assignment.

Rubric: This assignment uses a rubric for scoring. Please review it as part of your assignment preparation and again prior to submission to ensure you have addressed its criteria at the highest level.

Instructions and expectations

1.     First, before you jump headfirst into the assignment, make certain that you have thoroughly read the assigned readings. It would help if you were to answer the questions at the end of the readings before writing your essay. Please do not simply retell the story.

2.    Please be certain that you have read the prompt and are addressing the correct information.

3. Please refrain from using first-person references in this assignment.  Your essay is to not exceed 500 words, which includes the title of your paper and the body. If you exceed 500 words, you may be penalized.

Theme– A theme is a universal idea, lesson, or message explored throughout a work of literature. One key characteristic of literary themes is their universality, which is to say that themes are ideas that not only apply to the specific characters and events of a book or play but also express broader truths about the human experience that readers can apply to their own lives.

Choose one of the following and complete a 3 to 5 paragraph essay in MLA format.

1. Identify and describe a prevalent theme in Toni Cade Bambara’s short story “The Lesson” that reflected the message of the author. What is it that you feel the author wanted you to see by making the characters so colorful? Are the themes presented universal or are they limited to a certain race of people?

1.  Identify and describe a prevalent theme in James Baldwin’s short story “Sonny’s Blues” that reflected the message of the author. How does Baldwin use the relationship of siblings to impact or reflect the theme you identify?

Discussion:

Screening is the administration of measures or tests to distinguish individuals who may have a condition from those who probably do not have it.  Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of screening.

 Topic 1: Qualitative Research Design

Using the knowledge and insights gained from the textbook and other reliable sources answer the following. Define, in your own words, qualitative research. Locate and cite two different types of qualitative research articles related to your PICOT project. Provide a brief explanation of each design. Identify a potential qualitative research study that is important to nursing and describe which design you would use for this study, why you would use that design, and how the information generated from the study could be applied in nursing practice. Reflect on the value of qualitative research adding to the science, knowledge, and practice of nursing.
