Global Healthcare Comparison Matrix and Narrative Statement

If you talk about a possible poor health outcome, do you believe that outcome will occur? Do you believe eye contact and personal contact should be avoided?

You would have a difficult time practicing as a nurse if you believed these to be true. But they are very real beliefs in some cultures.

Differences in cultural beliefs, subcultures, religion, ethnic customs, dietary customs, language, and a host of other factors contribute to the complex environment that surrounds global healthcare issues. Failure to understand and account for these differences can create a gulf between practitioners and the public they serve.

In this Assignment, you will examine a global health issue and consider the approach to this issue by the United States and by one other country.

To Prepare:

· Review the World Health Organization’s (WHO) global health agenda and select one global health issue to focus on for this Assignment.

· Select at least one additional country to compare to the U.S. for this Assignment.

· Reflect on how the global health issue you selected is approached in the U.S. and in the additional country you selected.

· Review and download the Global Health Comparison Matrix provided in the Resources.

The Assignment:

1- 2-page Global Health Comparison Matrix.

1-page Plan for Social Change)

Part 1: Global Health Comparison Matrix

Focusing on the country you selected and the U.S., complete the Global Health Comparison Matrix. Be sure to address the following:

· Consider the U.S. national/federal health policies that have been adapted for the global health issue you selected from the WHO global health agenda. Compare these policies to the additional country you selected for study.

· Explain the strengths and weaknesses of each policy.

· Explain how the social determinants of health may impact the global health issue you selected. Be specific and provide examples.

· Using the WHO’s Organization’s global health agenda as well as the results of your own research, analyze how each country’s government addresses cost, quality, and access to the global health issue selected.

· Explain how the health policy you selected might impact the health of the global population. Be specific and provide examples.

· Explain how the health policy you selected might impact the role of the nurse in each country.

· Explain how global health issues impact local healthcare organizations and policies in both countries. Be specific and provide examples.

Part 2: A Plan for Social Change

Reflect on the global health policy comparison and analysis you conducted in Part 1 of the Assignment and the impact that global health issues may have on the world, the U.S., your community, as well as your practice as a nurse leader.

In a 1-page response, create a plan for social change that incorporates a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.

· Explain how you would advocate for the incorporation of a global perspective or lens into your local practice and role as a nurse leader.

· Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens might impact your local practice and role as a nurse leader.

· Explain how the incorporation of a global perspective or lens into your local practice as a nurse leader represents and contributes to social change. Be specific and provide examples.

Attached is an the assignment for global health comparison.  . The grid has to be  entirely completed. I reviewed some health care issues with a lot of information that can be easily compared with the United States including the World health Organization  (WHO). Issues such as the recent Covid-19 virus, influenza pandemic, Ebola virus, MERS-SARS, and HIV/Aids. There are countries with a high prevalence  in comparison with the United States such as china and the  African continents. Please elaborate to fill in the grid template entirely.  Thank you.

Moral Theories, Principles of Health Care Ethics, and Professional Ethics Codes

Ethics is a branch of philosophy devoted to the study of morality. Ethics has a long history of theories about determining right from wrong and identifying the principles of living a good life. For this assessment, you will be asked to apply foundational principles in ethics, such as autonomy and justice, in a relevant health care setting.

Each profession within health care has its own code of ethical behavior designed to help individuals within that profession to make sound ethical choices in carrying out the tasks and practices particular to their professional role. It may be useful to locate one or more relevant codes of ethics for your current or desired career path. This research will be beneficial to your professional development, and you will have a chance to apply it to the Tonya’s Case: Ethics and Professional Codes assessment in this course.

Autonomy, Truth-Telling, and Confidentiality

These are broad-ranging topics, which, if taken alone, seem almost comically simple. Of course, rational people of legal age should be able to make decisions concerning themselves and their minor children. Of course, medical professionals should be honest with patients, and, of course, patients should be honest with members of their health care teams. Of course, one’s medical issues should be kept private. But rarely are things as simple as they seem. Take some time to scratch beneath the surface, and we encounter myriad ethical dilemmas.

Honesty tends to be a revered trait in many cultures. However, many people admit to lying occasionally, especially if the intent is to spare someone pain, embarrassment, or anguish. Is lying to someone because of love, concern, or reputation ever ethical?

Privacy and confidentiality are also important concepts. But are there limits? Can the greater good ever outweigh the rights of individuals?

And at what point can others, whether an individual or an entity such as a government body, ethically determine someone’s actions, fate, or choices? Fluoridated water, smoking regulations, compulsory K–12 education, and speed limits are only a few examples of how we, as a society, agree to limited personal freedoms because these things are good for us.

Demonstration of Proficiency

By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria:

  • Competency 1: Articulate ethical issues in health care.
    • Articulate the time-tested theories of ethics.
    • Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the time-tested theories of ethics.
  • Competency 4: Explain the conceptual framework that health care leaders use to make ethical decisions.
    • Identify the decision criteria of the time-tested theories of ethics.

Preparation

As you begin work on your Ethical Theories Matrix assessment, it may be helpful to review the suggested resources focused on moral and ethical considerations. For your own reference, you may want to briefly jot down your thoughts related to:

  • An inventory of the basic principles of health care ethics. These principles are nonmaleficence, beneficence, utility, distributive justice, and autonomy.
    • An explanation of each principle as well as your own example to illustrate the application of each.

Instructions

Drawing from the material covered in the resources as well as your own research, complete this assessment using the Ethical Theory Matrix Template [DOC].

  • For each theory, first describe the decision criteria. The decision criteria are the instructions the theory gives for how to reach the morally correct choice in a situation that requires action.
  • Then, provide your own example of how someone might act using the decision criteria of the theory.
  • Finally, briefly describe the strengths and weaknesses of each theory using the last two columns of the Ethical Theory Matrix Template.

The suggested resources for this assessment could help you get a start on completing the matrix, but do not hesitate to use any outside resources that you can find online, the Capella library, or elsewhere.

This matrix is a tool you will use throughout the rest of the course. Submit your completed matrix as an attachment to this assessment.

Refer to the Matrix of Ethical Theories Scoring Guide for more information on how this assessment will be graded.

Benchmark – Risk Management Program Analysis – Part Two

The purpose of this assignment is to analyze how an organization’s quality and improvement processes contribute to its risk management program.

This assignment builds on the Risk Management Program Analysis – Part One assignment you completed in Topic 1 of this course.

Assume that the sample risk management program you analyzed in Topic 1 was implemented and is now currently in use by your health care employer/organization. Further assume that your supervisor has asked you to create a high‐level summary brief of this new risk management program to share with a group of administrative personnel from a newly created community health organization in your state who has enlisted your organization’s assistance in developing their own risk management policies and procedures.

Compose a 1,250‐1,500 word summary brief that expands upon the elements you first addressed in the Topic 1 assignment. In this summary brief, address the following points regarding your health care organization and its risk management program:

  1. Explain the role of your organization’s MIPPA-approved accreditation body (e.g., JC, ACR, IAC) in the evaluation of your institution’s quality improvement and risk management processes.
  2. Describe the roles that different levels of administrative personnel play in healthcare ethics and establishing or sustaining employer/employee-focused organizational risk management strategies and operational policies.
  3. Illustrate how your organization’s risk management and compliance programs support ethical standards, patient consent, and patient rights and responsibilities.
  4. Explain the legal and ethical responsibilities health care professionals face in upholding risk management policies and administering safe health care at your organization.
  5. Relate how your organization’s quality improvement processes support and contribute to its overall journey to excellence.

In addition to your textbook, you are required to support your analysis with a minimum of three peer‐reviewed references.

Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required.

This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.

You are required to submit this assignment to LopesWrite. Refer to the LopesWrite Technical Support articles for assistance.

  4. The length of the paper is to be approximately three pages, excluding the title page and reference list.
  5. APA format (6th edition) is required in this assignment, including a title page and reference page. Use APA level 1 headings for the organizational structure of this assignment. Remember that the introduction does not carry a heading that labels it as a level heading in APA format. The first part of your paper is assumed to be the introduction. See APA manual for details. See resource under the course Library Guide, “Guidelines for Writing Professional Papers.” Use the suggested format and headings to organize your assignment.
    1. Include introduction (do not label as a heading in APA format)
    2. Steps Related to Legal/Regulatory Issue
    3. State-Board Recovery Program
    4. Strategies
    5. Supporting Evidence
    6. Conclusion

Preparing the paper

As the nurse executive of a healthcare organization, it was reported to you that one of your nurses may be chemically impaired (legal/regulatory issue) and has allegedly been taking drugs from the unit. This nurse also had two recent medication errors in the past week. Discuss the steps you would take to validate this allegation and how you would proceed after the allegation was confirmed to be true.

  1. Clearly introduce your legal/regulatory issue in the introduction paragraph; including a sentence that states the purpose of your paper.
  2. Clearly articulate the steps you would take as the nurse leader to investigate the allegation of this legal/regulatory issue as stated above and how to proceed when the allegation is confirmed to be true.
  3. Investigate/research and discuss if your state board of nursing offers some type of recovery program for chemically-impaired nurses (a strategy). If they do not offer a program in your state, discuss a proposed recovery program for chemically-impaired nurses that you would like to have implemented for your state.

Contact a state representative who may have an interest in this topic area and share their comments on this issue in an addendum (not included as part of the three page limit). Include your correspondence eg. Emails in your addendum, as well. This will demonstrate you contacted a state representative, in the event you do not receive a response.

Paragraph 1

As a nurse our responsibility is to make sure our patients understand what we educate them on because that causes better outcomes for the patients we care for. Strategies we can implement besides learning styles is looking at the patient has a whole. Nurses should like and consider the emotional, the physical, the spiritual and how willing they are to learn and if encouragement is needed to complete the plan of care or help the patient understand what they need to know prior to discharge. Another strategy is starting to teach the patient as soon as they are admitted because now and especially in a hospital the patient is admitted and then discharged in such a short time that we don’t get to teach as much as we should anymore. I personally feel behavioral objectives should consistently be used because anytime health promotion/teaching is part of the plan of care then this typically is going to lean towards the changing the of unhealthy habits or even adding in healthier habits.

Paragraph 2

The nurse has many roles and responsibility during a shift. The nurse is a friend, a confidant, an advocator; but one of the most important roles is a health educator. Nurses providing quality, individualized, education can increase patient outcomes (Smith & Zsohar, 2013). The teaching is not just for the patients but their caregivers as well. The patient’s caregivers can be family, friends, or hired personal staff. Before teaching should begin, it is important for the nurse to address any language or cultural barriers that could affect the patient’s ability to learn. It is vital to ensure the patient and caregivers have their seeing or listening devices on prior to delivering education. From personal experience, it is quite frustrating to teach the patient and caregivers only to find out their hearing aids were not in place. The formulate an individualized care plan, the nurse needs to assess the patient’s current knowledge about the disease and address any misconceptions the patient may have about their disease (Ashton & Oermann, 2014). This can be done by asking open-ended questions about their current knowledge of their medications or the knowledge they have about their disease process. The patient may not believe something is happening internally because he/she is not physically injured or they do not physically feel anything wrong. Patient’s may know the disease process but not the repercussions of not following their care plan. For example, a Type 1 diabetic not monitoring their blood sugar daily. The patient may not be aware of what can happen systemically. Assessing the patient’s willingness to learn. The Type 1 diabetic could be a teenage girl with apprehensions about monitoring blood sugar at school. The apprehension can affect the patient’s optimal outcome. The nurse will have to modify the approach when teaching this patient. Behavioral objectives would need to be utilized for this patient due to the at-risk behaviors which could lead to deteriorating health condition
