Statistics is needed at every stage of the research beginning from planning to the end, in order to gain scientifically importance and to obtain reliable results. The use of the inappropriate statistical method, technique and the analysis cause time and cost lost and most importantly thinking in the way of scientific ethics, it gives harm to science and humanity. Even if the study is carefully planned to conduct as a result of applications with errors, the misleading results might be obtained. That leads other mistake who takes as a reference to those studies (Ercan, 2007).

There are different types of graphics to demonstrate the distribution and the tendency of the variable in detail. Nevertheless most of the researchers do not know which graphic type is suitable for which type of data and objective, so they plot the graphs at random, resulting in wrong impression of the true nature of the data. Graphic representations can be misleading, and large differences between groups that come with large variability might not be significant, no matter how they look (Ercan, 2007).

A review  subjected to the use of statistics in science and in medical journals to indicate room for improvement stated that at least half of the published scientific methods have statistical errors. Some of the errors mentioned include failing to document the statistical methods used or using an improper method to test statistical hypothesis, every research, in every planning, and in everything that is scientifically important.  An example of this would be  the following study analyzes “articles in Infection and Immunity for appropriateness of statistical analysis and reporting. I reviewed all 141 articles from two issues, January 2002 (volume 70, no. 1) and July 2002 (volume 70, no. 7); listed the statistical analyses used; and identified errors in analysis and reporting. Errors were defined with respect to the current instructions to authors (2), accepted statistical practice), and professional judgment” (Olsen, C. H. 2003).

Linear correlation analysis is used in statistics in the measurement  of relationship, causation, significant of co-variation between at  least two variables or more, and degree of significance. By stating in  conclusion that cigarettes cause the pulse rate to increase through  this data is jumping into conclusion as we can only imply from this  information that there is a relationship only. However, relationship  does not mean causation. Because one factor (the number of cigarettes  smoked) seems to cause the pulse rate to increase, it does not say the  casual relationship between two variables. Linear correlation looks at  the strength of relationships between two or more variables, but does  not look at their casual relationships (Tay, 2014). Think of it as a  see-saw. When one side gets sat on, the other side goes up. However,  we cannot say through linear correlation analysis regarding the casual  relationship between the two sides. Suppose the person on one other  side is twice the weight of the person on the other end. In order for  the other end of the see-saw to go up, it requires the heavier person  to kick with their legs from the ground to lift up. That causal  relationship factor is not seen through a linear correlation analysis.

In order to prove the casual relationship between the number of  cigarettes smoked to the increase of heart rate, further studies need  to be performed. More data is needed and a stricter data-collection is  also needed. Factors such as activities performed before smoking and  before taking the pulse rate, person’s normal heart rate, daily  activities performed, if they exercise, medications taken, and more,  should also be observed and carefully considered as those can all  increase or decrease people’s pulse rate.

Good response to the question Leanet. Many researchers believe that lack of knowledge about research and EBP is present in many nurses today. Even though it is being presented to students in nursing programs now, the connection between research, and its’ effects on daily practice is not made. Many nursing colleagues would rather ask each other for information than searching a database. Since nursing is such a high demand position and many facilities are understaffed many times, I believe this plays an important role in the disconnect. With the changing environment in regards to technology, and the availability at many facilities of internet access and medical librarians, one would think that conducting research would be more efficient and quick allowing evidence-based practice to be more accessible to the clinical nurse. Conceptual-Theoretical-Empirical

  Conceptual-Theoretical-Empirical Structure (CTE) Evaluation Assignment

Details:

Conceptual models, theories, and empirical indicators are linked and provide a nursing knowledge system to apply the model or theory to nursing practice, research, and education. Advanced-practice nurses are required to understand the linkages as applied to nursing and translate the components into practice.  To continue development of nursing knowledge, advanced practice nurses can create structure to test theory.

General Guidelines:

•This assignment requires that at least three additional scholarly research articles related to this topic, and at least one in-text citation from each source be included.

•You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Please refer to the directions in the Student Success Center.

Directions:

Write a 1,200-1500 word paper examining how the Conceptual – Theoretical – Empirical (CTE) structure translates into nursing practice based on one of the middle range theories that has been formulated or derived from your preferred conceptual model of nursing. Translate and apply the selected theory to nursing practice using actual examples. Evaluate the theory using the CTE steps below:

1.Evaluation of the conceptual-theoretical-empirical linkages.

2.Evaluation of the selected theory.

3.Evaluation of the empirical indicators.

4.Evaluation of research findings.

5.Evaluation of the utility and soundness of the practice theory.

Re:Topic 5 DQ 1

Research methods such as qualitative and quantitative are the tools that researchers use while they investigate their topics or study (Almalki, 2016). According to Walliman (2011) it is the researcher’s responsibility to pick the appropriate tool for their study. There are three methods that connects research information-qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method.

There are advantages and disadvantages to using both qualitative and quantitative studies together. The advantages are it gives the study more depth, validity, and understanding. This also allows researchers to compensate for unexpected methods weaknesses and strengths and offset biases (Greene, 2007). However, combining the two methods into a mixed method can be very time consuming for the researcher and participates. Secondly, deciding on the mixed method that would work best for their study can be confusing. These mixed methods could be triangulation design, embedded design, explanatory design and explanation design. Even though it can be daunting, mixed method research can provide positive benefits and allow and offer the researcher an opportunity for a more realistic link between methods and a stronger understanding of the study being investigated (Almalki, 2016).

Nursing homework help

Extraneous Variables are undesirable variables that influence the relationship between the variables that an experimenter is examining. Another way to think of this, is that these are variables the influence the outcome of an experiment, though they are not the variables that are actually of interest. These variables are undesirable because they add error to an experiment. A major goal in research design is to decrease or control the influence of extraneous variables as much as possible (Hall, 2011). Extraneous variables that vary with the levels of the independent variable are the most dangerous type in terms of challenging the validity of experimental results. These types of extraneous variables have a special name, confounding variables. Any experiment that involves a comparison of men and women is inherently plagued with confounding variables, the most commonly cited of which is that the social environment for males and females is very different.

An example of extraneous variable is if a study focused on the effect of relaxation therapy on the perception of incisional pain, the researchers would have to control the extraneous variables, such as type of surgical incision and time, amount, and type of pain medication administered after surgery, to prevent their influence on the patient’s perception of pain. Selecting only patients with abdominal incisions who are hospitalized and receiving only one type of pain medication intravenously after surgery would control some of these extraneous variables. Controlling extraneous variables enables researchers to determine the effects of an intervention or treatment on study outcomes more accurately

Nursing homework help

APA format master nursing program 3-5 pages with 5 references 3 from walden university library.  Project to be written on following PICOT question:  In patients with urinary retention, what is the effect that straight catheterizing or self-catharizing, in comparison to indwelling catheter on increasing urinary infections?

Course Project: Introduction to Course Project

Evidence-based practice involves a great deal more than simply reading nursing periodicals on a regular basis. Nurses can take a more proactive approach to evidence-based practice by identifying authentic problems and concerns, and then using that to guide their inquiries into current research. In this way, nurses can connect the results of relevant research studies to their nursing practice.

For the Course Project, you identify and apply relevant research to a specific nursing topic or problem. You begin by formulating an answerable question that is relevant to nursing and evidence-based practice. In later weeks of this course, you continue the Course Project by conducting a literature review and then determining how the evidence from the literature can be applied to nursing practice.

Before you begin, review the Course Project Overview document located in this week’s Learning Resources.

Note: This Course Project will serve as the Portfolio Assignment for the course. In addition to submitting portions of this Project in Weeks 2 and 5, you will turn in all three deliverables in Week 10.

Course Project: Part 1—Identifying a Researchable Problem

One of the most challenging aspects of EBP is to actually identify the answerable question.

—Karen Sue Davies

Formulating a question that targets the goal of your research is a challenging but essential task. The question plays a crucial role in all other aspects of the research, including the determination of the research design and theoretical perspective to be applied, which data will be collected, and which tools will be used for analysis. It is therefore essential to take the time to ensure that the research question addresses what you actually want to study. Doing so will increase your likelihood of obtaining meaningful results.

In this first component of the Course Project, you formulate questions to address a particular nursing issue or problem. You use the PICOT model—patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome—outlined in the Learning Resources to design your questions.

To prepare:

    • Review the article, “Formulating the Evidence Based Practice Question: A Review of the Frameworks,” found in the Learning Resources for this week. Focus on the PICOT model for guiding the development of research questions.
    • Review the section beginning on page 71 of the course text, titled, “Developing and Refining Research Problems” in the course text, which focuses on analyzing the feasibility of a research problem.
    • Reflect on an issue or problem that you have noticed in your nursing practice. Consider the significance of this issue or problem.
    • Generate at least five questions that relate to the issue which you have identified. Use the criteria in your course text to select one question that would be most appropriate in terms of significance, feasibility, and interest. Be prepared to explain your rationale.
    • Formulate a preliminary PICO question—one that is answerable—based on your analysis. What are the PICO variables (patient/population, intervention/issue, comparison, and outcome) for this question?

Note: Not all of these variables may be appropriate to every question. Be sure to analyze which are and are not relevant to your specific question.

  • Using the PICOT variables that you determined for your question, develop a list of at least 10 keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search to investigate current research pertaining to the question.

To complete:

Write a 3- to 4-page paper that includes the following:

  • A summary of your area of interest, an identification of the problem that you have selected, and an explanation of the significance of this problem for nursing practice
  • The 5 questions you have generated and a description of how you analyzed them for feasibility
  • Your preliminary PICOT question and a description of each PICOT variable relevant to your question
  • At least 10 possible keywords that could be used when conducting a literature search for your PICOT question and a rationale for your selections
