Respond to the following questions and, if appropriate, include personal experience as part of your answers:· Why are healthcare organizations unable to bill separately for nursing services, and what is the impact on nurse leaders?· What can the nursing profession, and specifically nursing leaders, do to change this issue?· Why are nursing services considered an expense and not an income generator?Discussion response instructions:Ask questions of the other students that promote further thinking and discussion on the topic. Consider the changes to billing identified by the other students. Do you agree or disagree that these changes can make an impact on nursing services? Why or why not?Use your personal experience, if it’s relevant, to support or debate other students’ posts. If differences of opinion occur, debate the issues professionally and provide examples to support opinions.Discussion response #1Currently healthcare organizations are unable to bill for individual nursing services. After a hospitalization, the patient is presented with a bill that highlights the services that the patient received during their hospitalization. These services often include specific tests completed and specific nursing interventions required such as the need for a blood transfusion or medications. In addition to these services, the physician or specialist visit is billed at a set rate depending on the diagnosis-related group which the patient is admitted under (Lasater, 2014). However, the nurses and patient care technicians who provide a majority of the services that the patient is billed for do not get a set rate for the patient to be billed. Lasater (2014) highlights the although the nurses are not a part of the inpatient billing system the patient is billed for room and board in which the nursing care is embedded. This means that no matter the nursing care that the patient received during their hospitalization they have a set rate for room and board (Lasater, 2014). Unfortunately, this leads to the conclusion that most healthcare organizations are under the impression that nursing care is an added expense to the hospital system due to the way that they are not directly compensated for nursing care as they are for physician care (Lasater, 2014). This impacts nurse leaders by creating a void in nursing care. With hospital organizations viewing nursing care as an added expense for them, the nurse leaders must be able to advocate for the nursing staff and the need for nursing staff within the organization. One way that nursing leaders can advocate to change the financial standstill within the nursing profession is to create a plan to highlight the amount of nursing care that the patient is receiving during their hospitalization. This can be done by creating an acuity tool designated to show the amount of nursing care required for the patient. This acuity tool designated a set number to assign the patient depending on the acuity of the patient. For example, a patient who is deemed as a 4 on the acuity scale doesn’t require as much nursing and clinical care as a patient deemed an 8 on the acuity scale. This scale can be in place to highlight the importance of nurses and the amount of care that the patients require during their hospitalization. This is important because this tool can be transformed into financial freedom for nurses to prove to the healthcare organization that they are an important part of the team (Bayram et al., 2022).Laskowski-Jones (2023) highlights that nurses are the largest labor expense in healthcare, nursing positions are often budgeted as a cost as opposed to a revenue generator. This is due to the simple fact that physicians are able to charge for their services and are viewed as a revenue generator for the organization. The nursing profession is the one profession within healthcare that provides care for the patient (Laskowski-Jones, 2023). This is because the nurse implements the doctor’s orders and is face-to-face assessing the patient on a daily basis. Hopefully in the future nurses will be recognized for the difference they make in the healthcare field and not viewed as an added expense to the organization.ReferencesBayram, A., Pokorná, A., Ličen, S., Beharková, N., Saibertová, S., Wilhelmová, R., Prosen, M., Karnjus, I., Buchtová, B., & Palese, A. This approach has a significant impact on nurse leaders as it affects resource allocation, budgeting, and staffing decisions within healthcare organizations. Nurse leaders must navigate the challenge of providing high-quality nursing care within limited financial resources, often balancing patient needs with budgetary constraints.Nursing services are often considered an expense rather than an income generator because they are viewed as a cost center within healthcare organizations. According to an article by Vallire Hooper, “Nursing is not a cost center…..nursing is THE ONLY revenue center that keeps hospitals open. Patients are admitted to the hospital for one, and only one reason: the need for 24/7 nursing care” (2020, para. 5). While nursing care is essential for delivering high-quality patient care and achieving positive outcomes, it is not typically billed as a separate service that generates revenue. Instead, nursing services are part of the overhead costs associated with providing healthcare services, including salaries, benefits, and other operational expenses, therefore considering nursing care an expense rather than an income generator.Nursing leaders can advocate for changes in healthcare policy and reimbursement structures. They can collaborate with policymakers, professional organizations, and other stakeholders to promote recognition of the value of nursing services and advocate for reforms that allow for separate billing or reimbursement mechanisms for nursing care. Nursing leaders can also demonstrate the impact of nursing services on patient outcomes, quality of care, and overall healthcare costs through research, data analysis, and advocacy efforts. By highlighting the unique contributions of nursing to patient care and outcomes, nursing leaders can work towards achieving greater recognition and financial support for nursing services.Reference:Hooper V. Your questions should clearly describe areas you may need clarification and/or guidance for the continuation of your work on the Personal Legislative Agenda.RERSPOND TO THIS DISCUSSION POSTTO C WHHello everyone,As I begin developing my Personal Legislative Agenda, I have several questions and concerns that I believe need to be addressed in order to ensure that the policies I advocate for are both impactful and grounded in evidence-based practices. The goal of this agenda is to create policies that positively affect vulnerable populations, specifically those struggling with substance use disorders, homelessness, and health disparities. I understand that creating effective and sustainable policy requires not only understanding the needs of these populations but also ensuring that the policies I advocate for are backed by research and address systemic issues. With that in mind, I have two specific questions that I would like to pose to my colleagues for feedback and guidance.Question 1:How Can I Effectively Integrate Evidence-Based Practices into the Development of My Personal Legislative Agenda? One concern I have as I move forward in creating my legislative agenda is ensuring that the policies I propose are grounded in evidence-based practices. I am particularly focused on the issues of substance use disorders and homelessness, which have long been plagued by ineffective policies and fragmented care systems. I want to ensure that any legislative action I advocate for is rooted in the best available research to ensure it is both actionable and effective. For example, policies such as theHousing Firstapproach and integrated healthcare models have shown promise in addressing the complex needs of individuals with substance use disorders and homelessness (Tsemberis, 2021; Rosen et al., 2021). I am interested in understanding how to systematically incorporate these evidence-based practices into the legislation I will be advocating for. What is the most effective way to integrate specific data and research findings into policy proposals, ensuring that lawmakers can see the direct correlation between the proposed interventions and the expected outcomes? Furthermore, how can I present the evidence in a compelling way that resonates with policymakers who may not have a clinical background? Ensuring that the policy is both evidence-driven and adaptable to the unique needs of the target population is critical for its success. In addition, how can I use available data and research to influence policymakers at the state and federal levels? For example, if I advocate for increased funding for substance use treatment programs, I will need to reference research that shows how this funding can lead to long-term improvements in public health and reduced healthcare costs. Having a strategy for presenting evidence-based practices in a clear and persuasive manner will be crucial for garnering support.Question 2:How Can I Address Systemic Barriers in Legislative Advocacy for Vulnerable Populations?Another significant challenge I face in creating my Personal Legislative Agenda is addressing the systemic barriers that marginalized populations, particularly those dealing with homelessness and substance use disorders, often face. These individuals are disproportionately affected by the intersection of multiple social determinants of health, including poverty, inadequate access to healthcare, and criminal justice involvement. Therefore, it is essential to advocate for policies that not only address the immediate needs of these populations but also offer long-term solutions that break the cycle of poverty, homelessness, and substance use.In my experience working with Whipple Ministries, I have seen firsthand how fragmented care and lack of access to housing can undermine recovery efforts for individuals with substance use disorders. Research has shown that individuals with co-occurring disorders, such as substance use disorders and mental health issues, are particularly vulnerable to negative outcomes when they do not have stable housing (Tsemberis, 2021). TheHousing Firstapproach, which prioritizes stable housing before addressing other issues such as substance use, has been shown to improve long-term outcomes by reducing homelessness and increasing engagement with treatment (Tsemberis, 2021). However, policies like these are often not fully implemented due to political and logistical challenges, such as insufficient funding, lack of coordination between service sectors, and resistance from stakeholders who may not see the value of a holistic, patient-centered approach. In light of these challenges, my question is how I can best advocate for policies that address these systemic issues in a way that resonates with lawmakers. For example, whileHousing Firstprograms have been successful in some areas, they are often not as widespread or adequately funded as they need to be. What are the most effective strategies for advocating for the expansion of such programs at the state and federal levels? How can I make the case for integrating housing with healthcare services to legislators who may prioritize other types of policy interventions? Understanding how to frame these systemic issues in a way that aligns with broader policy goals, such as reducing healthcare costs or improving public safety, will be critical for the success of my legislative agenda.Additionally, what steps can I take to ensure that the policy changes I advocate for are sustainable in the long term? Advocating for initial funding is important, but without a strategy for long-term sustainability, even well-designed policies can fail. I would appreciate guidance on how to incorporate a sustainability plan into my legislative agenda to ensure that these programs continue to serve vulnerable populations for years to come.In conclusion, as I continue to work on my Personal Legislative Agenda, I hope to gain further insights into how to integrate evidence-based practices effectively and advocate for policies that address the systemic barriers faced by vulnerable populations. Your guidance and feedback on these questions will help ensure that the policies I propose are not only feasible but also impactful in creating lasting change.ReferencesRosen, J., Johnson, D., & Myers, R. And although the United States spends more money on healthcare than other highly industrialized countries, according to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (2021), it has some of the poorest health outcomes of other developed countries. As nurses, we identify the inequities that affect our patients outside of medical care, such as lack of money to purchase needed medications, transportation, food insecurity, poor housing, and fear of safety in the neighborhood. Because of these factors, understanding the impact of the SDOH, in shaping one’s health, is critical to today’s nursing workforce. As noted in the introductory quote from Thomas Edison, addressing SDOH and developing strategies with good intentions and a bad approach, to promote positive social change, may not help the patient, the community, nor the organization. Planning for change by using a translation model, instead, assists the organization and ensures that a variety of stakeholders have plan input, implementation time is decreased, and outcomes are clearly identified.ResourcesBe sure to review the Learning Resources before completing this activity.

Home>Homework Answsers>Nursing homework help5 months ago18.02.20251Report issuefiles (1)Assessment54015patho.docxAssessment54015patho.docxAssessment 5Comprehensive Head-to-Toe AssessmentCreate a 10 to 15 minute video recording of yourself performing a head-to-toe assessment on a volunteer who will be acting like one of the patients from the scenario case studies in this course.Expand AllIntroductionClick to view theNURS-FPX4015 Course Wrap-Up Video. As you grow as a nurse, the ability to conduct a comprehensive and precise physical assessment of a patient is paramount, serving as the foundation for all subsequent healthcare decisions. This skill is closely tied to the crucial task of formulating an accurate differential diagnosis, which guides the course of treatment and significantly impacts patient outcomes. Incorporating an understanding of pathophysiology and pharmacology not only aids in the diagnostic process but also informs the development of an effective treatment plan. Lastly, the nurse’s role extends beyond these technical aspects, encompassing the vital responsibility of communicating these findings and plans to the patient, thereby fostering a collaborative and informed approach to healthcare. This assessment must be completed on camera. You should use Kaltura to make your recording. If you need more information on how to create and submit your video, please refer toUsing Kaltura.InstructionsRemember, your assessment submission will not be graded if you have not completed and submitted the Comprehensive Head-to-Toe Assessment Waiver. If you have not, complete and submit the waiver for Assessment 1.The purpose of this assessment is to allow you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to conduct an accurate and thorough examination of a patient, which is a critical skill for nurse practitioners. Patient assessments that are either inaccurate or not thorough can lead to misdiagnoses or suboptimal health outcomes for patients. For this assessment, you will submit a video of yourself conducting a head-to-toe assessment on a volunteer based on one of the Sentinel U case studies presented in this course. Your head-to-toe assessment should include a detailed analysis of the underlying pathophysiology of the selected disease process, the expected assessment findings, and the patient’s pharmacological needs. Additionally, you should discuss nursing implications for the selected disease process, from a pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment perspective.Your video submission will be assessed on the following:·Comprehensive and Professional Assessment:Perform a comprehensive, thorough, and accurate assessment of a patient based on a selected disease process.· Remember, that the person standing in as your patient should be acting out one of the diagnoses from the Sentinel U case studies in the course.· Be careful and thorough in your assessment, make sure the camera can see what you are doing or make sure you are describing what you are doing to the patient.·Discussion of Diagnosis and Findings:Explain the diagnosis and findings of the physical assessment with the patient.· What did you find in your assessment?· How did the findings help you arrive at your diagnosis?· Are you communicating the findings to the patient in a way that provides context and helps the patient understand your findings?·Understanding of Pharmacological Needs:Discuss the pharmacological needs of the patient within the context of their disease process and current best practices.· What are the standard pharmacological treatments for the patient’s diagnosis?· How does the patient’s health history, other conditions, and other medications impact the decision making process related to pharmacological treatment options?· What other information does the patient need to know related to potential side effects or things to avoid related to any new pharmacological treatments for their condition?·Understanding of Pathophysiology:Explain the underlying pathophysiology of the disease process to the patient.· How does the disease process work in the body? Which systems does it impact?· How is the patient likely to feel if the disease process progresses?· How might symptoms of the disease process look or sound like to the patient?·Critical Thinking and Clinical Reasoning:Synthesize assessment findings with knowledge of the disease process, pharmacology, and pathophysiology to establish care priorities for the patient.· What are the care priorities for the patient?· How have you used your assessment findings, combined with what you know about the pharmacology and pathophysiology to arrive at these priorities?· What evidence-based or best-practices support these priorities?·Communication and Professionalism:The nurse displays professionalism and communicates clearly and effectively with the appropriate use of terminology with the patient throughout the assessment.Additional Requirements·Total Length of Submission:Your video assessment must be 10 to 15 minutes in length.·Captions:Make sure that your Kaltura has been auto-captioned by the system before turning it in. This helps to support accessibility best practices and can help faculty more effectively assess your video.· Kaltura captions are automatically generated within 24 hours of you uploading the video recording to your Kaltura library. So, make sure you are not making your recording at the last minute.Competencies MeasuredBy successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the following course competencies and scoring guide criteria:· Competency 1: Explain how pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment comprise a holistic approach to nursing care.· Synthesize assessment findings with knowledge of the disease process, pharmacology, and pathophysiology to establish care priorities for the patient.· Competency 3: Educate individuals on prevention and management of health conditions, across the life span and including special populations, based on pathophysiology, pharmacology, and physical assessment knowledge.· Discuss the pharmacological needs of the patient within the context of their disease process and current best practices.· Explain the underlying pathophysiology of the disease process to the patient.· Competency 4: Perform comprehensive and focused physical assessments using appropriate techniques and tools.· Perform a comprehensive, thorough, and accurate assessment of a patient based on a selected disease process.· Explain the diagnosis and findings of the physical assessment with the patient.· Competency 5: Apply scholarly writing standards to communicate evidence based strategies that support safe and effective patient care.· The nurse displays professionalism and communicates clearly and effectively with the appropriate use of terminology with the patient throughout the assessment.Assessment54015patho.docxAssessment 5Comprehensive Head-to-Toe AssessmentCreate a 10 to 15 minute video recording of yourself performing a head-to-toe assessment on a volunteer who will be acting like one of the patients from the scenario case studies in this course.Expand AllIntroductionClick to view theNURS-FPX4015 Course Wrap-Up Video.
