MOOD STABILIZER

This Ais designed to help you analyze the many considerations for prescribing mood stabilizers, as well as organizing the many different lab components to consider when prescribing to a patient.

Directions:

Construct a 5- to 6-p p  discussing each of the four traditional mood stabilizer medications: carbamazepine, lamotrigine, lithium, and valproate products. Support your answers with five (5) evidence-based, peer-reviewed scholarly literature.

Note: A P A style format will apply.

Your p should include the following for each:

  • Proposed mechanism of action
  • Baseline assessment, laboratory considerations, and frequency of ongoing labs and assessments
    Note: Discuss the importance of assessment and labs.
  • Special population considerations (birth assigned gender, age, other medical comorbidity considerations)
  • FDA approval indications
  • Typical dosing with discussion on therapeutic endpoints for psychiatric use
  • Major drug–drug interaction considerations
    • For each of these medications, please review potential drug–drug interactions listed below. Consider alternative dosing schedules, clinical implications for the drug interactions, additional patient education needed, any additional monitoring recommended, or collaboration needed with other medical professions (such as, primary care providers)

· Describe how the nursing problems define the gap in knowledge (research) and the gap in practice (QI and DNP projects). Compare and contrast how the problems are presented and potentially influence a positive nursing practice change.

· Identify one key measurement/variable used in each of the three studies/projects.

· Critique the question development tool presented in terms of the problem, the EBP question, and the measurement (Hicks, 2024).

By Day 6 of Week 2

Read a selection of your colleagues’ posts and  respond to  at least two of your colleagues on  two different days by expanding upon their reflections, making connections to your perceptions, and offering additional insights.

Scenario

As a case manager at your healthcare organization, you were asked to present at the annual case conference highlighting genetic and genomic nursing care strategies. The virtual presentation will highlight the ethical, legal, and social needs of a client with a positive genetic test result and explore the role of general nursing when caring for clients with genetic and genomic needs.

 

Instructions

Select a genetic or genomic condition for the virtual presentation.

 

The presentation must include Microsoft PowerPoint® slides with notes, images and an audio recording of the presentation.

Include the following information in the recorded presentation regarding the selected genetic or genomic condition:

· Describe a case scenario that explains the client’s genetic or genomic condition, including client and family history, specific genetic assessment findings and diagnostic results.
