Discuss the importance of effective communication in the personal relationship, the therapeutic relationship, and the relationship within the interprofessional health-care team.

The importance of communication in the personal aspect is that creating individual relationship is important and effective communication is essential to achieve this. In addition, when a patient has an important relationship with the care provider, then the assistant will feel that the association is important and will try as much as possible to help such a person, (Macken, 2017). With that being said, when it comes to the therapeutic relationship, the individuals involved in this case will feel that the patients feel that their care providers are the people that are within the framework required for offering them the care they need. Health professionals use therapeutic relationships to help patients and provide them with factual information, so effective communication is crucial. Interprofessional relationships involve the transfer of information and communication between two or more individuals working together. This type of relationship requires for all of the health care members to actively engage and effectively communicate in order to provide adequate patient care and complete tasks accurately.

What similarities and differences can you identify among the above interactions?

The essential similarity that is involved in the among interactions is that effective communication is required amongst the types of relationships mentioned in order for the relationship to function properly. However, the differences involved include the professionalism required in each type of relationship mentioned. For example, interprofessional relationships are more formal than personal relationships.

Explain the concept of congruence between verbal and nonverbal communication.

The concept of the congruence between the verbal and the non-verbal communication is incredibly important. The congruence is that the verbal and the non-verbal congruence has a great association in that verbal situation reveals the information that is communicated via spoken words that the patient may share. Non-verbal communication entails information communicated through facial expressions and gestures. The congruence between these two forms of communication is that they provide health care workers information about the patient’s feelings. Additionally, the nurse may even compare what the patient says, meaning verbal communication, to what the patient portrays, in this case non-verbal communication, and find any resemblance.

There are many pitfalls to electronic communication. Identify a situation in which an electronic form of communication may result in a miscommunication. What other method of communication would have been more effective?

Although electronic communication may provide individuals with any benefits, many pitfalls exists with electronic communication. A situation in which electronic communication may result in a miscommunication may be if, for example, an email was not delivered or was delivered late. This miscommunication could have been prevented if a personal meeting or conversation would have been used instead.

How have you seen ISBAR used during your clinical experiences?

In my experience, I have seen ISBAR being used for communication among health care providers. I have experienced that, first, the health care professional introduces himself or herself and gives the reason for calling (I). Then, the situation is explained, including age and gender of the patient and the status (S). The patient’s background is then explained including clinical history and current presenting problems (B). The health care provider then describes the assessment conducted on the patient including their current condition, risks, and results (A). Lastly, the provider calling may make any recommendations of what he or she thinks should best benefit the patient (R).

Develop a hand-off report for yourself.Include items that you believe are pertinent for safe and effective nursing care. Refer to the information in the chapter for creating this report form.Using the information from the chapter, determine the effectiveness of the system currently in use on your unit for communicating shift-to-shift reports.

Maria Rodriguez, 68, female, admitted to emergency department. Presented with right-lower abdominal pain and mild fever. Reported severe pain. Patient is stable but continues to report pain. Patient was admitted September 28, 2020 with a past medical history of asthma. Patient was diagnosed with appendicitis. Assessment revealed elevated blood pressure and rapid respirations. Pain assessment revealed an 8 out of a 0-10 scale. Patient was taken in for an appendectomy and is currently stable and in recovery. Recommendations for this patient include further pain assessment. Surgical wound incision should be monitored for any deterioration. Vital signs should be taken regularly.

Dr. Roberts comes into the nurses’station demanding, “Where are Mr. Adams’s lab reports? I ordered these stat, and they’re not here! Who’s responsible for this patient?” How would you, as the nurse, respond?

As a nurse, I would refer to any personnel and staff member with respect. My initial response would be to talk respectfully to Dr. Roberts and assure him that I will conduct the labs stat. I would further apologize for the delay and explain to the doctor the situation which caused the setback in the labs. For example, I would inform the doctor if my patient had coded or if any accident had previously occurred.

Explain the concept of accountability in delegation. What are the legal ramifications of accountability in delegation?

The concept of accountability means that every person will be responsible for the practices or the conclusions that the person might make in the involved organization. In this delegation, the ramification is that when a person fails to deliver the goals that a person promised or was responsible to deliver, then the person will be held responsible for such a failure in delegation.

Dennie and Elias arrive in the unit for the 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift. Both nurses completed orientation 4 weeks ago. They find that they will be the only two RNs on the floor that night. There is a census of 48 clients. The remaining staff consists of two NAPs/UAPs and one LPN. What are the responsibilities of the RN, NAP/UAP, and LPN? Can Dennie and Elias effectively delegate client care tasks and care safely for all 48 clients? Use the Delegation Tree to make your decisions.

Using the delegation tree, the nurse must begin by assessing the needs of the patient in order to decide what can be delegated or what has to be done by his or her own (“Ana’s Principles for Delegation,” 2013). The responsibilities of the RN would include severe cases, sterile procedures, IV meal administration, assessment, teaching, and evaluation of patient care. On the other hand, the responsibilities of the LPN might include caring for stable clients and performing routine procedures. Lastly, unlike the responsibilities of the RN and LPN, those that would pertain to NAP/UAPs might involve activities of daily living, for instance, bathing and dressing patients. Furthermore, according to the delegation tree, in order for delegation to occur, a registered nurse must be present to supervise. If this is not possible, the task cannot be delegated.

Discuss the differences between direct delegation and indirect delegation.

A notable difference exists between a direct delegation and an indirect delegation. A direct delegation means that a nurse specifically assigns or delegates a task to another health care worker to perform according to his or her scope of practice. However, in the case of an indirect delegation, a listing of approved activities and tasks is given to the health care provider that were previously established by the agency based on policies of the facility.

You have to observe delegation procedures in your assigned unit:

What considerations does the RN take into account when delegating patient care?

Whenever delegating procedures into the assigned unit, an individual has to make key considerations. Before delegating any task, a nurse must assure that it involves the right person, right task, right circumstances, right directions and communication, and right supervision and evaluation (“Assignment, delegation and supervision: NCLEX-RN,” 2016). What this means is that the right person must be assigned for the right job under adequate circumstances. The nurse delegating the task must provide the other health care provider with the right directions and communications to perform such tasks accordingly. Lastly, the nurse must provide the right supervision and must evaluate the completed task in order to determine the effectiveness of the task and better improve any skills, if needed.

You have to look at the unit census and prioritize the patient care:

Give the rationale for your choices.

As far as looking at the unit census and prioritizing the care of the patient is concerned, the rationale for the choices is that different patients require different care and protection. As an example, some require immediate attention while the others might require care that may be not be so urgent. Therefore, in this case, the patients that require immediate attention will be given a priority while those that do not require immediate attention will be given second priority. The rationale of the choices is that care will be given according to the condition of the patients in that the critical patients will be given a priority while the least affected will be cared for after.

Answer the following questions during your clinical experiences:

What specific tasks did your patients require that you might have been able to delegate?

Patient needs should be evaluated prior to delegating a task and the job should be within the scope of practice of the other health professional in order to provide safety and well-being, keeping in mind the possibility of causing any harm to the patient (Whitehead, Weiss, & Tappen, 2009).The ideal tasks that my patients required that I might have been able to delegate included giving the patient a bed bath and assisting the patient with dressing changes and activities of daily living.

How effective was your nurse/preceptor in delegating tasks to others?

The nurse/preceptor I observed was highly effective in delegating duties to others. The reason is that the nurse would delegate any task that was under the scope of practice of the other health professional. For instance, she did not delegate any assessment, education, or evaluation of any patients, which falls under the RN’s scope of practice.

How did your nurse/preceptor ensure that the tasks were completed safely and appropriately?

The appropriate way that the nurse made sure that tasks were finished appropriately and safely especially after delegating them was by evaluating the task and revising the work done after being completed. Additionally, after delegating a task, the nurse would still supervise the assigned health professional and would allow him or her to ask any question or clarification in case a need arose.

Respond to  your  colleagues by suggesting an alternate therapeutic approach. Support your  feedback with evidence-based literature and/or your own experiences  with clients.

NOTE( Positive Comment)

                                                         Main Post

Anxiety  disorders are psychiatric conditions that share characteristics of  excessive fear of real or perceived imminent threat. According to  Thibaut (2017), anxiety disorders are the most prevalent psychiatric  disorders- accounting for 7.3% of all psychiatric disorders worldwide.  Anxiety disorders are distinguished from one another by the triggers  that induce the anxiety, fear, or other associated behavior and may  include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder,  obsessive-compulsive disorder, selective mutism, separation anxiety  disorder, medication/substance-induced anxiety disorder, and social  phobia (American Psychiatric Disorder, 2013; Thibaut, 2017).

A client I observed is N.B, a 15-year old male Caucasian presented to  the clinic by his mother, who was concerned about his anxious behavior.  The client’s mother described him as a shy person with little friends.  For this reason, N.B spends most of his time playing video-games in his  room. The client’s mother also revealed that N.B has always had problems  meeting new people. During the interview, N.B looked uncomfortable. He  could not keep eye contact and was fidgeting. N.B’s mother also revealed  that he has always struggled in the presence of his peers. N.B has  severally turned down his peer’s invitations to hang out and often  engages in avoidance behaviors. After assessing the client, a diagnosis  was made for social anxiety disorder (Social phobia) 300.23 (F40.10)  (American Psychiatric Disorder, 2013).

The DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for social anxiety disorder (Social  phobia) involves marked fear or anxiety of one or more social situations  where an individual is exposed to scrutiny by others- (in peer settings  for children). The social situations always provoke fear or anxiety and  must have been lasting for six months or more. In the given case, the  client met the diagnostic criteria for social anxiety disorder.

Therapeutic Approach and perceived Effectiveness

The most appropriate treatment for N.B is cognitive behavioral therapy  (CBT). CBT is regarded as the approach with the highest level of  evidence in the treatment of social anxiety disorder (Bandelow et al.,  2017). CBT’s goal in treating social anxiety disorder is to enable the  client to gain self-consciousness by changing maladaptive behaviors and  negative thoughts that make oneself uncomfortable in social situations.  In their study, Pinjarkar et al. (2015) examined the effectiveness of  CBT in treating social anxiety and found a clinically significant  improvement in the subject’s self-consciousness and avoidance behavior  (63.79%). In another study, David et al. (2014) concluded that cognitive  therapy resulted in better outcomes than wait-list in the treatment of  social anxiety disorder patients (78% of the subjects did not meet  avoidant personality criteria at the end of treatment). The study also  showed that cognitive-behavioral therapy was more superior to expressive  and art therapy in the treatment of social anxiety disorder (71%)  (David et al., 2014).

Thank you for listening to me.

I look forward to hearing from you on alternate therapeutic approaches.

Answer to essay-200 words minimum (OmHDEZ)

Use at least 2 references, not the same. Write an answer based on this assignment.

Question 1

Establishing clear and effective communication in the medical setting has proven essential to provide high-quality medical care and also to ensure greater safety for the patient Communication is one of our best weapons to provide quality patient-centered care. Nurses have to be aware of the barriers to this effective communication as well as the new challenges posed by care adapted to the patient’s culture, which can become more than a problem, but an opportunity to grow in our profession. We have to remember that the purpose of the patient meeting is to provide information and confirm understanding of that information later. One strategy for better understanding is for us to explain the information to you slowly and in small doses, giving patients enough time to process the information. Gently ask the patient what he has understood during the conversation. If the purpose of the interaction is to do health education, include empowering patients to be the main doers in their care, giving them access to all the information about their disease process. Communication involves verbal and nonverbal message, emotional state of involved individuals, and the cultural background that influences message interpretation. Nurses need to observe nonverbal behavior as they communicate with fellow healthcare workers and patients. Most importantly, they should always ensure that their own nonverbal behavior harmonizes with their verbal interactions (Ali, Rahnavard, Salsali, & Negarandeh, 2016).

Question 2

During patient stay at hospital, they interact with different healthcare workers within the hospital. Efficient clinical practice entails accurate communication of critical information. Lack of effective communication among healthcare professionals puts the patients’ safety at risk. Some of the reasons for this include misinterpretation of critical information, lack of critical information, neglected changes in patients’ condition, and imprecise orders over phone. Medication errors is a common consequence of ineffective communication in a healthcare setting. Such errors can lead to severe harm or unforeseen death of the patient.

Question 3

When congruence the verbal signals are congruent with each other and always congruent with nonverbal ones. When there is congruence between them, communication is clear. A serious context is accompanied by a limited emission of non-verbal signals, while an informal context calls for greater expressiveness. The impact a healthcare professional makes on their colleagues and patients during face-to-face communication is largely accounted by their nonverbal behavior. These first impressions are critical in any communication and include; maintaining eye contact, and maintaining consistent vocal patterns, which can be speaker with more volume and a bit faster, or speaking slower with less volume. Additionally, a nurse must ensure they use vocal pauses strategically in order to enhance an impression of confidence.

Question 4

Electronic communication is widely being utilized in nursing practice. Through the use of electronic records, patient information can be retrieved and distributed precisely and quickly. However, wrong information may be retrieved and distributed leading to miscommunication. Most organizations have information systems that support access to current data, exceptional clinical and research data to enhance evidence-based practice. I believe if e-mail is kept professional, it would be more effective method of communication. Many systems allow for easier sending of emails to everyone within the healthcare facility. In order to use e-mail competently and effectively, it is necessary to have effective writing skills.

Question 5

Good communication skills and having firsthand information is very helpful when discussing patient needs. SBAR is an abbreviation for Situation, Background, Assessment, and Recommendation. In my clinical experience I have seen the use of SBAR utilized to offer a framework for communicating critical patient information in a manner that is systematic and organized. the SBAR method center on the immediate situation so as to allow quicker and safe making of decisions concerning patient care (Simamora & Fathi, 2019).

Question 6

Patient handoffs are very important in ensuring the continuity and safety of patient care. This should support the transition of vital information and continuity of care as well as treatment. Ineffective handoffs lead to undesirable effects and patient safety risks. To successfully communicate patient needs from one nurse to another, the change-of-shift report is highly recommended. The report should address relevant information related to events that transpired, and be handed over to individuals tasked with providing continuity of care. Examples of what to include would be patient information, diagnosis, past medical history, allergies, advances directive, detailed aspects of the patient care and health, including vital signs, pending and critical tests, as well as recommendations that you consider appropriate for the care and safety of the patient.

Question 7

As a nurse I would check the doctor’s order immediately and I would make sure to call the laboratory to request the laboratories and deliver them to the doctor as it should have happened in the first instance. In the same way, I would make sure to speak in private with the doctor and demand respect for my work, which was probably a bit delayed due to circumstances beyond my control, this would be of course after establishing patient safety as a priority.

Question 8

Accountability forms part of delegation whereby a registered member of the staff delegates a task to a given staff member and that member accepts the task. Both the registered member of the staff who has delegated the task and the staff member accepting the task are accountable in making sure that the task delegated is correct and will cause no harm to the patient. Registered practitioners are accountable to regulatory bodies based on principles of practice and patient care. Thus, accountability involves protection of patients, healthcare providers, and employers from the effects of nursing practice that is dreadful, inattentive, and unsafe. Registered nurses have a legal liability to the patients they serve. Activities like HCA, or AP, need to be delegated appropriately (Whitehead, Weiss, & Tappen, 2009).

Question 9

Delegation is a central nursing responsibility, and RN’s are entitled to delegate several tasks. Nurses mostly delegates tasks to LPN’s and UAP. Factors such as; the scope of practice in relation to the task, task complexity and predictability, possibility of any harm, and level of critical thinking needed to do the task must be accounted for before RNs deciding when and what to delegate. The UAPs and LPNs have the ability to practice patient care and assistive tasks (Whitehead, Weiss, & Tappen, 2009). They will be motivated by the fact that they frequently work under the supervision of a registered nurse, hence Dennie and Elias effectively delegate client care tasks and ensure their safety.

Question 10

Direct delegation involves verbal direction by the RN registered member concerning an activity or task in a particular nursing care scenario. On the other hand, indirect delegation involves an approved outline of tasks or activities that have been instituted in the policies and procedures of a healthcare facility.

1.A Most state nurse practice acts authorize RNs to delegate. The act outlines the legal parameters of nursing practice. The RN is required to assign and delegate tasks while considering the needs and state of patient, possibility of any harm, task complexity, stability of the patient’s condition, delegated staff’s abilities, predictable outcomes, and the context of other patient needs (Whitehead, Weiss, & Tappen, 2009). The decisions regarding delegation and assignment base on the core principles of health safety and wellbeing of the public.

2.A Prioritizing is extremely important, since each situation requires a timely and specific intervention depending on its seriousness, and the patient safety is at stake.

3.A my patients may need help with their personal hygiene and grooming, with their meals and daily maintenance of comfort.

3.B She was very effective and dedicated in carrying out her work when it comes to delegating, always on the basis that the resolution to delegate a task is aimed at improving patient care.

3.C Since responsibility is not delegated, unless is appropiate to do it, the delegated task must be continuously monitored and alerted to any situation, through supervision of the work carried out the nurse preceptor can ensure that the tasks were completed safely and appropiately.

Strengths Revealed from Gallup Assessment

Leaders are known to possess a variety of characteristics that motivate followers to work towards a common goal. My results from the Gallup test revealed that my leadership strengths are achiever, competition, input, learner, and restorative. It is essential as a leader to recognize your strengths and weaknesses to guide others towards positive outcomes. Gallup (2020) describes an achiever as someone who works beyond the requirements. An achiever spends more time working on a goal than any other task (Gallup, 2020). The strength of competition drives a person to always want to be the best at whatever job (Gallup, 2020). Competitors are always comparing themselves to others to gain insight on how to be ahead of their competitors (Gallup, 2020). The strength of input arouses curiosity and inquisition. A person with the strength of input is always inquisitive about innovative events and seeking new information (Gallup, 2020). The strength of input refers to those persons who are knowledge seekers (Gallup, 2020). Much like input, the learner also has a strong sense of curiosity. The learner wants to be continuously taught and gather new ideas to expand current expertise (Gallup, 2020). Finally, the restorative strength is reserved for persons who seek perfection and are continuously reviewing ideas and avenues to reach a high-level goal (Gallup,2020). Overall, the described strengths each contribute to leadership characteristics.

Strengthening Core Values

The assessment not only reveals strengths but also shows my underlying weaknesses. I need to strengthen a few core values or beliefs after reviewing my assessment results. Oh et al. (2018) informs us that maintaining core values in leadership inspires subordinates to have a more incredible passion for their work, set higher standards, and work towards organizational goals. When core values are aligned to meet the organization’s needs, job satisfaction occurs (Oh et al., 2018). Marshall & Brome (2017) states that having defined beliefs “models the way” for others, articulating the significance of everyone’s participation in organizational goals(p.120). One core value that I need to strengthen based on my results is self-confidence. The strength of competition fuels my efforts to compare to others and want to do better continually. With competition, however, also comes self-doubt. I need to look less at what others are doing and ensure myself that I am making the right decisions for the organization. Strengthening my self-confidence also inspires others to trust me to be a confident, reliable leader.

Another core value that I need to evaluate is communication. An effective leader needs o to be able to commend others on their achievements and offer constructive criticism. There are staff members that have been on the unit longer than I have, and sometimes I find it hard to communicate criticism efficiently due to the feeling of not wanting to offend anyone. As a leader, I need to work on ways to communicate both successes and failures to the staff so that they are cognizant of their need for improvement. Communicating and helping staff understand where they could accelerate contributes to the success of the organization.

Improving my Strengths

My two strengths that need to be improved as a developing leader are learner and restorative. As a learner, I always want to acquire new knowledge. I’m always looking for an opportunity to understand how to run the unit better, care for specific patient populations, and much more successfully. My strength in restorative is what drives my strength in the learner area. My strength of restorative urges me to seek daily improvements, which triggers my learner curiosity. Using my restorative strength, I strive to improve on how we deliver patient care daily and how the team interacts to meet organizational needs. With both my strengths, to improve, I need to look for more learning and restorative opportunities. Instead of being consumed by nursing tasks, I should incorporate periods of learning and evaluation for restoration. These two strengths are sometimes overshadowed by workloads that, as a leader, I forget to use those strengths to better the organization.

Strengthening My Characteristics

One characteristic that I need to strengthen is in agreeableness. States that due to the amount of time nurses spend connecting with interdisciplinary persons, agreeableness is a characteristic that is necessary for quality patient care. With the workloads, all departments can become frustrated, and sometimes we take the discontent out on each other. Working on being more agreeable can significantly improve patient care and influence how followers also interact with other departments.

Another characteristic that I would like to work on is emotional stability. Results from a study show that emotional instability is high in the nursing profession due to burnout and job dissatisfaction. As a leader, I must work on my emotional stability to model behaviors for others. There are times when the work gets overwhelming, and I find myself complaining out loud. When I feel emotionally overwhelmed, I need to focus on maintaining emotional stability because it influences how others portray the work environment. The only way to keep a positive environment is to set the tone as a great leader.

In conclusion, although the assessment revealed many of my strengths, weaknesses also exist. There are many aspects of becoming a leader that I need to focus on and further develop. Core values, current strengths, and characteristics are all essential areas of self-development that improve patient experience and those of organizational members.

Description of the Assessment

This writer has completed the StrengthsFinder assessment which resulted in the following characteristics: Input, Positivity, Responsibility, Futuristic and Learner. The Input attribute is summarized as having the zeal to collect enough insight to thoughtfully examine an abstract concept, theory, or idea. The Positivity attribute is descriptive as generous with praise, quick to smile and always on the lookout for the positive in situations surrounding this writer. Responsibility is characterized by the taking psychological ownership for anything this writer commits to, and whether large or small, feels emotionally bound to follow it through to completion. Being a Futuristic is described as the kind of person who loves to peer over the horizon, fascinated about the future and sees in detail what the future might hold, which helps pulls this writer forward, into tomorrow. The final strength identified was Learner. This described the writer as someone who is very much interested and determined to learn new things and drawn to the process of learning. The process, more than the content or the results is especially exciting to this writer (Gallup, Inc., 2020).

Core Values

The information the StrengthsFinder Assessment generated is interesting. It helps an individual to keep grounded and provide perspective. It also helps to manage the direction in life and work as a leader. Two core values that were identified were Honesty and Confidence. Honesty should be the bedrock of an individual’s foundation, as it will define who a person is before others can know more. If things are dealt with in truth, it allows individuals to live a life with far less worry. Analytical minds can be used to think of new ideas, rather than lies and excuses. Honest intentions in speech and action gain the attention and respect of others. Honesty promotes openness, empowers us and enables us to develop consistency in how we present the facts. Honesty sharpens our perception and allows us to observe everything around us with clarity. Honesty in the workplace is key to building a strong team that trusts each other. To build integrity and a good reputation among coworkers, it is important to always keep your word when you say you are going to do something. When mistakes are made, take responsibility for them. Be transparent in everything said or done. Also respect confidential information, whether business-related or personal.

A major component of confidence is the value a person place on him/herself. Confidence is about the faith you have in your abilities, the person you are, and how you view your most important relationship. With confidence, one can rise to the top of their profession. It keeps one balanced and grounded. It is a powerful value that gives so much definition to the core of who we are. Confidence gives us the strength to pursue our dreams. It psyches us up to get the job or opportunity we have prepared and dreamed about (Scully, 2015).

Strengths Identified

There are two personal strengths this writer identified from the StrengthsFinder assessment. The first strength is the ability to learn new skills. Knowing how to actively grow and develop a skill is a skill itself, and if you understand how the principles of learning work, it will be easier to learn any new skill in the future. It is therefore worth putting some effort into understanding the benefits of not staying away from new skills. This writer has never been afraid to learn new procedures introduced at the place of work. New ideas are greatly appreciated and embraced no matter how big or small. It is important to learn new things especially, new technologies since the world is currently evolving around technology. New software use at work might be challenging, but this writer endeavors to delve into it and make it easier for others to learn, without being intimidated. My willingness to soak up with newness calm others fears and spur them into action (Gallup, Inc., 2020).

The second strength identified is being positive about everything. People exceptionally talented in the positivity theme have contagious enthusiasm. This writer brings enthusiasm to people, group and place of work. Stimulating my team to be more productive and hopeful at work is what this writer is best known for. When colleagues complain about a task that needs to be finished within a timeframe, this writer tries to make it fun for everyone to feel energized from start to finish. Even if it is not going on well as planned, because they most of the times rely on this writer to help them rise above frustrations, energy will be focused on good things that have been previously achieved to see the need to take it to the next level. This writer can deliberately help others see the things that are going well for them and keep their eyes on the positive.

Areas for Improvement

Out of the four domains of team strengths from the StrengthsFinder Assessment: Executing, Influencing, Relationship Building and Strategic Thinking, this writer needs to improve on the Influencing aspect. The ability to influence is an essential leadership skill. To influence is to have an impact on the behaviors, attitudes, opinions and choices of others. Influence is not to be confused with power or control. It is not about manipulating others to get your way.

The first characteristic to improve on is communication. Being able to communicate as a leader is vital. That means it does not matter what the issue is, it must be communicated for everyone to be on the same page. Communication skills are abilities this writer needs to use when giving and receiving different kinds of information. Some examples include communicating ideas, feelings or what is happening. Communication skills involve listening, speaking, observing and empathizing. This writer needs to improve on how information is given across to bring the best out of situations. Communication skills are needed to speak appropriately with a wide variety of people whilst maintaining good eye contact, demonstrate a varied vocabulary and tailor your language to your audience, listen effectively, present ideas appropriately, write clearly and concisely, and work well in a group.

The second characteristic that needs to be worked on Self Assurance. This is described as the ability to take risks and manage one’s own life. Individuals with this characteristic have an inner compass that gives them certainty in their decisions. People with the strength of Self-Assurance have great faith in their own strengths. They are confident in their abilities and their judgments. They know they are unique, and this gives them confidence to face challenging situations. This writer needs to have this characteristic to believe in the abilities and capacities and know I can deliver exactly what is needed (Khalil, 2016). People who have Self Assurance behave as if they have an inner compass pointing them in the right direction, and they believe this right direction is right. They might act right even when they are not. This confidence impacts people, it increases their belief and confidence in themselves. This writer needs to master self-assurance characters so that confidence in others does not intimidate, but to encourage to be even more confident.

Low carb diets are believed to have positive effects for weight loss, increased performance, management of diabetes, and even curing cancer.  In the JAMA article, low carb is compared to low fat diets in a 12 month trial.  Discuss the effectiveness of low carb diets in relation to:

1)   Weight changes between a healthy low-fat diet vs a healthy low-carbohydrate diet

2) Genotype pattern and baseline insulin secretion associated with the dietary effects on weight loss

3) Which diet was better for whom?
