Writers use an argumentative (or persuasive) essay to try to change people’s viewpoints or convince them to accept a new behavior or action. People seldom agree on what is right, so a well-developed and supported argumentative essay can help uncover truth. This type of essay can help you think critically about your own ideas, evaluate different sides, and judge the evidence.

For example, in professional environments, you may be asked to help gain employee buy-in for changes to a dress code, benefits or compensation, procedures, and so on. You will need to be able to present these changes in a way that will make it easier for everyone to accept them.

Using prewriting strategies to develop an argumentative essay will help you plan your writing, organize your thoughts, find and organize supporting evidence, and present information clearly to your readers.

Note: The assessments in this course build on each other and must be taken in sequence. Assessment 6 is paired with Assessment 7. You must complete Assessment 6 and receive feedback from faculty before you complete Assessment 7.

Overview

Writers use an argumentative essay to defend a position on a particular issue. The goal is to persuade the reader to accept the argument; thus, this type of essay is also referred to a persuasive essay.

For this assessment and Assessment 7, you will write an argumentative essay on a topic of your choice. Try to choose a topic that reflects your professional or academic interests, keeping in mind that your goal will be to convince your reader to accept your argument.

For this assessment (which is paired with Assessment 7), you will need to develop an outline for the essay you will write in Assessment 7. Use the following headers to guide your outline development:

While the male and female reproductive systems are unique to each sex, they share a common function—reproduction. Disorders of this system range from delayed development to structural and functional abnormalities. Since many reproductive disorders not only result in physiological consequences but also psychological consequences such as embarrassment, guilt, or profound disappointment, patients are often hesitant to seek treatment. Advanced practice nurses need to educate patients on disorders and help relieve associated stigmas. During patient evaluations, patients must feel comfortable answering questions so that you, as a key health care provider, will be able to diagnose and recommend treatment options. As you begin this Discussion, consider reproductive disorders that you would commonly see in the clinical setting.

To Prepare

• Review Chapter 22 and Chapter 23 in the Hammer and McPhee text, as well as Chapter 33 and 34 in the Huether and McCance text.
• Select two disorders of the male and/or female reproductive systems that interest you. Consider the similarities and differences between the disorders.
• Select one of the following factors: genetics, ethnicity, age, or behavior. Think about how the factor you selected might impact the diagnosis of and treatment for the reproductive disorders.

Instructions.

A 32-year-old woman is concerned about the possibility of being pregnant. During the initial interview, you discover that she missed her usual menstrual cycle over 3 weeks ago. You also notice that her complexion is markedly tan for this time of the year (winter season). You briefly comment on this fact, and she states, “I want to keep my summer tan. So, I keep going to the tanning salon weekly.” She is here today to confirm the pregnancy with her primary care provider, and you are the nurse completing the initial interview. When asked if she has been taking a folic acid supplement, she states that she had “no concerns of pregnancy and was not aware of the need to take this medicine.” After she sees her primary care provider, he gives you the plan of care. The plan is to have a maternal serum marker test drawn today and recommend that she start on 600 μg of folic acid daily. In analyzing this case, please answer the following questions:

1. Discuss any teratogenic effect of this individual not taking a folic acid supplement. Explain what effect may occur on the developing fetus, identifying specific risks noted in this case.
2. Explain why the primary care provider included a maternal serum marker test in the plan of care for this individual.
3. Discuss the vulnerability of the fetus based on trimesters and teratogens and the role of the folic acid supplement.
4. Briefly discuss the how UVA and UVB rays contribute to the process of oncogenesis in skin cells.
5. How would you educate this individual on the risk of skin cancer related to increased exposure to UVA/UVB rays? Would you expect the primary care provider to perform a skin assessment during this visit? Why or why not?

 Teamwork.

  A teamwork approach includes team members from different disciplines working collaboratively, for a common purpose, to set goals; make decisions and share resources and responsibilities. During the team work, a group of clinicians from different disciplines, come together with the patient, perform assessment, make a diagnosis, intervene, and sett goal. The patient and their family are also involved in any discussions about the patient condition, prognosis and care plan (O’Reilly, Lee, O’Sullivan, Cullen, Kennedy, & MacFarlane, 2017).

In interdisciplinary teamwork, communication across disciplines and with the patient and their family is vital to setting the goals that most exactly reflect the patient’s health care needs.

In my experience, I had an opportunity to work with nursing assistant to give bath for a client and a physiotherapist to ambulate a patient who had general weakness during my clinical. As student nurse, I was just following both time and they were coordinating the care we gave to the clients. During both situations, the patient’s out come met because the plan was to give bath for the first patient and ambulating the second one to improve muscle strength. I personally liked both experience because it was good educational event to interact with patients.
