Chapter 6: Warning Labels

Under strict product liability, warning labels and directions for safe use must be included with every product sold or used in the United States. It is important for medical office personnel to keep a watchful eye out for damaged products that if left in use could cause injury to a patient.

For example, if something looks like a chair and is placed in use as a chair, it follows that it should be able to be sat on like a chair. If no visible warning labels are present, a morbidly obese patient sits on the chair, and the chair collapses under the patient’s weight, both the physician and the manufacturer could be held liable.

Look up warning labels and directions for use on various Internet sites. Find labels with warnings that “a reasonable person” should know but that manufacturers have included on the product to prevent potential litigation. Do not use the same site for each of your products. You must use 5 separate websites for this project.

Your paper must include at least 5 warning labels, directions, and the Internet site’s web address for that product. Please name the site and place the web address underneath the name. The warnings and directions must be easily located by your instructor.

Focused Activity 3 Instructions

Answer the following questions in 1–2 pages in 12-point font and double-spaced. Answers should be in complete sentences and in your own words. Provide citations with specific answers and a reference list, at the end, in current APA format.

Use your textbook to compare and contrast the similarities and differences of the following careers: physician, nurse practitioner, and physician assistant. Thoroughly cover topics of education, work description, work environment, opportunities, etc.

This paper should be written in a comparison/contrast style of writing, highlighting the similarities and differences of the three professions (do not simply describe each profession).

Use the course textbook, as well as these helpful websites, to learn more about the topics: Association of American Medical Colleges; American of Academy of Nurse Practitioners; American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Case Study, Chapter 9, Diversity in the Nursing Workforce

A group of nurse educators are having a discussion about the minority student nurses. The nurse educators believe that there are numerous barriers to minority student success in nursing education. The nurse educators want to develop strategies to increase the success rate in graduation of these students.

1. The nurse educators make a list of the barriers that exist for minority student success. What are common barriers for minority student success?

2. The group of nurse educators is acutely aware that different generations are represented in nursing today. These different generations have different attitudes and value systems, which greatly affect the settings in which they work. What are the key characteristics of the four generational groups that are present in today’s workforce?

3. Analyze and describe how the different generations present in nursing today affect nursing care and the nursing workplace.

Human Research Protection 

This week you will examine the concept of protecting human subjects in research. The aim is to familiarize you with the ethical issues associated with research and gain firsthand information of the processes used to protect research participants.

Search YouTube for the following videos to review:

• The Belmont Report (Part Two: Applying the Principles)
• Guiding Principles of Institutional Review Boards (IRB)

After viewing the videos, in a Microsoft Word document of 2-3 pages formatted in APA style, address the following criteria for each video:

• Describe one point from each video that you think is important regarding protecting human subjects in research.
• Your rationale for why you think the point you described is important.

On a separate references page, cite all sources using APA format.

• You may create your essay using this APA-formatted template.

This assignment consists of both an interview and a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation.

Assessment/Interview

Select a community of interest in your region. Perform a physical assessment of the community.

1. Perform a direct assessment of a community of interest using the “Functional Health Patterns Community Assessment Guide.”
2. Interview a community health and public health provider regarding that person’s role and experiences within the community.

Interview Guidelines

Interviews can take place in-person, by phone, or by Skype.

Develop interview questions to gather information about the role of the provider in the community and the health issues faced by the chosen community.

Compile key findings from the interview, including the interview questions used, and submit these with the presentation.

PowerPoint Presentation

Create a PowerPoint presentation of 15-20 slides (slide count does not include title and references slide) describing the chosen community interest.

Include the following in your presentation:

1. Description of community and community boundaries: the people and the geographic, geopolitical, financial, educational level; ethnic and phenomenological features of the community, as well as types of social interactions; common goals and interests; and barriers, and challenges, including any identified social determinates of health.
2. Summary of community assessment: (a) funding sources and (b) partnerships.
3. Summary of interview with community health/public health provider.
4. Identification of an issue that is lacking or an opportunity for health promotion.
5. A conclusion summarizing your key findings and a discussion of your impressions of the general health of the community.

Write a paragraph with 8 sentences about the purpose and benefits of foot and nail care for a patient.  Also do a PowerPoint  with the same topic with 6 slides
