Leadership: Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Competing needs arise within any organization as employees seek to meet their targets and leaders seek to meet company goals. As a leader, successful management of these goals requires establishing priorities and allocating resources accordingly.

Within a healthcare setting, the needs of the workforce, resources, and patients are often in conflict. Mandatory overtime, implementation of staffing ratios, use of unlicensed assisting personnel, and employer reductions of education benefits are examples of practices that might lead to conflicting needs in practice.

Leaders can contribute to both the problem and the solution through policies, action, and inaction. In this Assignment, you will further develop the white paper you began work on in Module 1 by addressing competing needs within your organization.

To Prepare:

  • Review the national healthcare issue/stressor you examined in your Assignment for Module 1, and review the analysis of the healthcare issue/stressor you selected.
  • Identify and review two evidence-based scholarly resources that focus on proposed policies/practices to apply to your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Reflect on the feedback you received from your colleagues on your Discussion post regarding competing needs.

The Assignment (4-5 pages):

Developing Organizational Policies and Practices

Add a section to the paper you submitted in Module 1. The new section should address the following:

  • Identify and describe at least two competing needs impacting your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Describe a relevant policy or practice in your organization that may influence your selected healthcare issue/stressor.
  • Critique the policy for ethical considerations, and explain the policy’s strengths and challenges in promoting ethics.
  • Recommend one or more policy or practice changes designed to balance the competing needs of resources, workers, and patients, while addressing any ethical shortcomings of the existing policies. Be specific and provide examples.
  • Cite evidence that informs the healthcare issue/stressor and/or the policies, and provide two scholarly resources in support of your policy or practice recommendations.

Nursing FNP – Marginalized Women and Childbearing Families

Home>Homework Answsers>Nursing homework helpon timeWeek 8: Marginalized Women and Childbearing FamiliesAssignment Guidelines with Scoring RubricPurposeThe purpose of this assignment is to provide the student with an opportunity to explore the concept of marginalization and how it impacts the healthcare of women and childbearing families.Activity Learning OutcomesThrough this assignment, the student will demonstrate the ability to:Articulate understanding of marginalization through current article appraisal. (CO5)Devise actions to mitigate social impacts to marginalized women and childbearing families. (CO5)Appraise the role of policy in the marginalization of women and childbearing families. (CO5)Requirements:Read the following article, which can be found in the Chamberlain library: Prodan‐Bhalla, N., & Browne, A. J. (2019).  Exploring women’s health care experiences through an equity lens:  Findings from a community clinic serving marginalised women.Journal of clinical nursing, 28(19-20), 3459-3469. https://doi.org/10.1111/jocn.14937Discussion Questions:As an advanced practice nurse, what are three actions you can take to mitigate social impacts to marginalized women? What role does policy at either government, state, or local level play in the marginalization of women and child bearing families?Identify one policy that impacts marginalized groups (include whether the policy is at the federal, state, or local level).Discuss how policy impacts marginalized groups either positively or negatively.Discussion Guiding PrinciplesThe ideas and beliefs underpinning the discussions guide students through engaging dialogues as they achieve the desired learning outcomes/competencies associated with their course in a manner that  empowers them to organize, integrate, apply and critically appraise  their knowledge to their selected field of practice. The use of  discussions provides students with opportunities to contribute  level-appropriate knowledge and experience to the topic in a safe,  caring, and fluid environment that models professional and social  interaction. The ebb and flow of a discussion is based upon the  composition of student and faculty interaction in the quest for relevant  scholarship. Participation in the discussion generates opportunities  for students to actively engage in the written ideas of others by  carefully reading, researching, reflecting, and responding to the  contributions of their peers and course faculty. Discussions foster the  development of members into a community of learners as they share ideas  and inquiries, consider perspectives that may be different from their  own, and integrate knowledge from other disciplines.Direct QuotesGood writing calls for the limited use of direct quotes. Direct  quotes in discussions are to be limited to one short quotation (not to  exceed 15 words). The quote must add substantively to the discussion.  Points will be deducted under the grammar, syntax, APA category.**To see view the grading criteria/rubric, please click on the 3 dots  in the box at the end of the solid gray bar above the discussion board  title and then Show Rubric.5 years ago20.10.202022Report issueAnswer(1)YourStudyGuru4.8(2k+)4.8(126)ChatPurchase the answer to view itNOT RATEDMarginalizedWomen.docx5 years agoplagiarism checkPurchase $22Bids(90)Dr Michelle MayaProf Double RDiscount AssignTeacher A+ WorkAshliey WriterDiscount AnsMichelle GoodManTutor Cyrus KenYourStudyGuruEmily ClareDr. Alitzel_JoePremiumProfRubbsAmanda SmithDr. Michelle_KMProCastrol01Nightingalewizard kimYourstarWIZARD_KIMother Questions(10)Nursing Research 6short written homeworkBusiness Marketing – Week 6 Project – APA Format – Due 4/9/16 10pm CSTMarketingAssignmentBond and Stock ProblemsbiotechnologyOppurtunity PLanWhat is the number chef Alonso should multiply the amount of chicken by so that the recipe will make 2…Survey of Calculus 5 easy problems…

Nursing research DQ #7

Study Validity

Validity is a critical element in quantitative research, and it determines how meaningful the results turn out. Validity refers to the accurateness of the methods and tools used to measure the research variables (Polit & Beck, 2017). The tools need to measure what the research intends to measure to ensure the validity of the study. The characteristics and qualities needed in research tools are reflected within the six types of validity.

First, construct validity is concerned with the tools’ ability to measure the intended study elements. This forms the basis for establishing overall study validity. The second type is content validity, which assesses whether the tools fully represent the elements to be measured (Polit & Beck, 2017). Research tools must cover all the relevant aspects intended to be measured exhaustively.

The third one is face validity, which tests whether the design of the tools used is suitable for the aims of the research. In other words, the questions must capture the intended aim. The fourth characteristic is presented within criterion validity. The correlation between elements in the tools used in a study makes criterion validity (Patten, & Newhart, 2017). The different questions used should point out the aspect being tested.

Next, we have discriminant validity, which for it to be established, study measures that are not supposed to be related should remain unrelated in all respects. Correlations between dissimilar measure aspects should be as low as possible (Polit & Beck, 2017).  Lastly, there is the convergent validity where measures that are intended to relate should reflect the same. The test here is on the degree of convergence. According to Mohaj (2017), theoretically similar study measures should have similarities.

Here Kant speaks of doing the right prior to good.2. On Kant’s second premise Patrick acted moral because he respected the dignity of Amanda and he treated her as an end in herself and not as means to an end like everyone else was doing in the film (the “Second Maxim”). Here Kant speaks of humans as special creatures and ends in themselves. Humans are ends, not means to an end. Los seres humanos son un fin, no un medio para un fin.3. The conclusion is that a detective act morally when he reports a kidnapping to the police and this behavior should establish a universal law governing all detectives in cases of kidnapping (the “Third Maxim”). Nursing homework help

Nursing informatics is a field of nursing that is continuously growing and evolving in the United States. Nursing informatics is the bridge between nursing knowledge and technology. Nurses work around the clock taking care of patients and are at the bedside to identify any patient care issues that may arise. The introduction of new technology into the healthcare system, such as electronic health records (EHRs), brings additional nursing problems, such as the loss of the art of caring (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018). Nursing informatics is relatively new within the organization that I work. The interactions I have noted between nurses and the informatics staff are not endearing as a feeling of overwhelmingness takes over with the addition of new processes regarding technology.

The art of caring includes therapeutic communication, mindfulness, and active listening. Although technology has positive attributes such as increased patient involvement in care with EHRs, nurses must remember to be present and actively engaged with whomever they interact. Many times a nurse may be consumed with documentation at the computer, and communication lacks between patients and other staff; for example, the clinician documents in the EHR while the patient is speaking of their symptoms, all while the clinician does not make eye contact with the patient. Technology should not replace the day to day interactions between clinicians and patients or other staff. Self-care, such as mindfulness and being present, can improve the relationships between co-workers and patients alike (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2018).

Dr. Watson first termed the Theory of Human Caring in 1979, which included the 10 Caritas Processes. The 10 Caritas Processes include engaging in loving-kindness, being present, refining spiritual practices, and creating a healing environment. The Watson Caring Science Institute has a Caritas Coach Education Program (CCEP) that consists of a six-month mentorship regarding Watson’s caring theory. Patient and staff satisfaction scores increased after nurses applied the 10 Caritas Processes into practice routinely (Norman et al., 2016). With the growing demand in healthcare technology, staff must remember to communicate their needs with one another and not just focus on technology to cultivate a positive work environment and build rapport between staff.

While technology continues to cultivate, nurses must remember patient-centered care and remain engaged with their co-workers. Healthcare technology has many benefits, such as EHRs and increased patient involvement with their care, but technology should never replace the interaction between patients and staff. Nurses must become actively involved in assisting technology companies with what is useful for excellent patient care through topics such as better workflows. By helping technology companies to capture patient care better, nurses will have more quality time at the bedside (Glassman, 2017).
