Week 4 Discussion Question: Chapter 13, Comfort and Pain Management

With the realization that pain is highly prevalent among older adults, please answer the following questions:  

Part Two: What is the prevalence of pain in older adults? How will you, as a nurse, be more aware of

pain issues related to older adults and what will the nurse incorporate into practice to alleviate these

issues?

Students are required to submit weekly reflective narratives throughout the course that will culminate in a final, course-long reflective journal due in Topic 10. The narratives help students integrate leadership and inquiry into current practice.

This reflection journal also allows students to outline what they have discovered about their professional practice, personal strengths and weaknesses, and additional resources that could be introduced in a given situation to influence optimal outcomes. Each week students should also explain how they met a course competency or course objective(s).

Rapid advances in technology development and telehealth adoption are opening new opportunities for nurses and healthcare providers to leverage technology for safe, high-quality care and improved patient outcomes. Telehealth encompasses a broad definition of telecommunications and information technology-enabled health care.

Explain the following terms:

• Telehealth

• Telenursing

Telehealth in its many forms can provide many benefits; however, there are issues that surround this mode of healthcare delivery. Four main issues related to telehealth are:

5. Locate the website of a professional organization related to nursing. Bring a copy of the organization’s mission, membership criteria, and standards of practice. 

6. Ask five people of different ages and gender who do not work in the health-care field what they think most nurses do. Compile their answers with the answers your classmates collected and summarize them. Compare the summary to what you know nurses actually do.
