Assignment Prompt

The purpose of the signature assignment is for students to apply the research and EBP concepts they have learned in this course and develop a framework for the initial steps of the student’s capstone project. The assignment allows the student to initiate the steps for planning, researching and developing an evidence-based practice intervention project proposal. 

On or before Day 7, of week eight each student will submit his or her final proposal paper to the week eight assignment link in D2L. This formal paper will include and expand upon work completed thus far in prior assignments.

Essential Components of the Final Project Proposal will include:   

1. Introduction– Provide an introduction to your topic or project. The introduction gives the reader an accurate, concrete understanding what the project will cover and what can be gained from implementation of this project.
2. Overview of the Problem – Discuss the problem,  why the problem is worth exploring and the potential contribution of the proposed project to the discipline of nursing.
3. Project Purpose Statement – Provide a declarative sentence or two which summarizes the specific topic and goals of the project.
4. Background and Significance – State the importance of the problem and emphasize what is innovative about your proposed project. Discuss the potential impact of your project on your anticipated results to the betterment of health and/or health outcomes.
5. PICOt formatted Clinical Project Question(s)– Provide the Population, Intervention, Comparison, Expected Outcomes and Timeframe for the proposed project.
6. Literature Review – Provide the key terms used to guide a search for evidence and discuss at least five (5) summaries of relevant, credible, recent, evidence-based research studies to support the project proposal.
7. Critical Appraisal of Literature – Discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the evidence, what is known from the evidence and what gaps in evidence were found from the appraisal of evidence-based research studies.
8. Develop an EBP Standard – Describe two to three interventions (or a bundle of care) from the evidence and discuss how individual patient preferences or the preferences of others will be considered.
9. Implications – Summarize the potential contributions of the proposed project for nursing research, education and practice.

• Revised PICOT Question: For elderly patients above 60 years with pressure ulcers (P) will the negative pressure wound therapy (I) as opposed to standard moist wound therapy (C) improve the healing of the pressure ulcer (O) during their two-week stay at the hospital (T).  
• Attached sample paper with track changes and yellow highlights is to show you the strength /weakness discussion. one thing to remember is that even though an article is level I to III, the weakness may limit the validity of the study to be used in changing practice.
•   FYI please use the first attachment  below as sample paper and the guidelines them the other 3 papers need to be expanded and incorporated in.  On this last paper you are discussing the interventions you would do.

Chapter 9: Evidence-Based Professional Nursing Practice

1.  How do I know what I know about nursing practice? Are my nursing decisions based on myths, traditions, experience, authority, trial and error, ritual, or scientific knowledge?

2.  How is new evidence disseminated to the bedside nurse in the organization in which you practice as a nursing student? How does the organization promote evidence-based practice? Do the nurses in the organization use current evidence in practice?

Part #1:

You are the community nurse working for a disability program that focuses on persons with physical disabilities including use of assistive devices, oxygen, and complex medication regimes.  The organization asks you to plan for a disaster like a tornado or hurricane so that the clients can maintain their current plans of care.  What specifics would you need to address including shelters, obtaining needed equipment & medications, and assistive devices?  What resources currently exist in your community for these individuals?  How would you organize the plans and communicate them?  What community partners are needed for success?  How would you evaluate the results?

Part #2:

Read the Application to Practice on page 923. Answer the questions presented in the scenario. Additionally, what specific resources are available here in SWFL or your area of practice for situations like this? How could you access them? What other options are there? How would you enhance resources based on need for telehealth and physical distancing?  What roles can the community health nurse play in caring for elderly in the community?  How would you evaluate the initiatives you undertake for this group of persons?

Discussion #3:

You are sent to a school to fill in for the nurse who is not working because of risk for SARS- COV2 disease. The school hires you on a part-time basis, twice weekly for the school year. You are the only nurse for 800 students ages 5 – 12. The school building is old but well kept. The school administrators are supportive and receptive to new ideas. The school does receive federal funding for childhood nutrition. There is a local hospital clinic that works with the school. With SARS-COV2, students must their lunches and eat in their classrooms. No health-related programs are in place for the school’s faculty and staff. With SARS-COV2 pandemic, you are tasked with developing a program and actions to prevent spread of infections within the school.

Be specific in your answers with concrete examples within your scope of practice and abilities in this position.

1. Review the Healthy People 2030 objectives for school health and other relevant topics.
2. Identify and prioritize the top 3 needs of this school within the scope of public health and school nurse practice related to SARS-COV2 prevention and mitigation of spread.

4. What specific recommendations or programs could you recommend from the Community, system and individual/family levels?
