I can’t lie I’m a huge procrastinator, when I was in previous colleges If I had a big assignment I would wait until the day of, but now that older I have dropped my procrastination; not completely but I have changed severely. Whether in class or online I take notes on my writing assignments & when I have quizzes I most definitely take notes, when I have gig assignments I take really good notes. Now I have a calendar hanging on my wall & I have everything that needs to be done promptly. Now, that I am in school I have another calendar that’s only for my assignments & when they are due, in my opinion, that works better for me; I do use the asterisk marks for things that are extremely important to do, I use to use a notebook, then I realized that wasn’t the best for me. I had never used “One Note” before I realized that I needed to have the task right in my face, other than that I’d completely forget all about it; I try to be earlier than late I tend to turn in assignments early rather than on time. The calendar effect that GCU has to offer is an excellent tool for students, especially me. I have never tried the alarms on my phone, since I can easily turn them off, I’ve never heard of “MOCS” and I wonder if would I understand the concepts. I have used “Cornell” notes for my much bigger assignments.

Procrastination can affect time management which can lead to deep feelings of urgency when due dates approach, having difficulty prioritizing tasks, and can even result in low quality work. I think when we procrastinate it can be hard to get out of that “frozen” state and initiate any responsibilities that need tending to. When we continue to put things off, it becomes overwhelming and incredibly stressful. I know in the past when I have procrastinated, I had a hard time with time management and setting myself up for success by not following any strategies that I would’ve benefited from. Through trial and error, I found some tools and strategies to practice and utilize to prevent feeling stressed. From the article, some strategies that resonate with me are scheduling events and tasks and To-Do Lists/Weekly Reviews. Knowing my learning style and how I am, having a planner with all of my due dates and upcoming tasks has been the biggest game changer for me.

I use a priority list in order to try and prevent from tuning in assignments late. I make a numerical list of when assignments are due and the worth of points for each assignment. I strive to review the information about what the expectations are to complete an assignment and try and gauge how long it may take me to complete an assignment. I also allow time for corrections sometimes I have to rewrite a paper many times. I try and get a second pair of eyes to review my work. I use schedules and calendars to help me stay organized. I have to balance my teaching yoga schedule, substituting in the local school district, getting my bachelor’s degree online, and my family time and personal appointments.
I utilize online calendars such as Google Calendars on my phone and laptop. I try and sync the calendars on my phone and other electronics. SO. everything in line and all have the same information. I use color coding for different events so I know how to list and where the events or deadlines should be prioritized in my daily life.

Procrastination is truly the foe of Productivity, I see this all the time when I have interruptions I get sidetracked doing something else instead of what I should be doing. The strategies mentioned in the article are things that we teach and talk about in the military as well as part of the holistic approach to the care for the whole soldier. I used to be a master at procrastinating until I realized the value of just getting the thing done and enjoying some downtime on the back end after. Which for me at least, is the more preferable option rather than the long nights and race against the clock just before the deadline. Procrastination leads to poor final products that are not as good as they would have been with more time and work devoted to the project. Procrastination is always crouching at the door waiting for the next cute toddler to pull me away from whatever project I am working on.
