3. 20 points. Find an example of a geological hazard incident that has happened and describe what the geological process was, how it affected society and a possible mitigation approach. For example, you could describe the effects of the tsunami that hit Japan in 2011 and discuss how they could have been mitigated by higher tsunami barriers. Write a summary using the form below (Word file), one typewritten page or less.

Requirements:

1. Find an example in any media (the internet is fine) and insert a photo from the media.

2. Briefly describe the geology of the event. Was it a mass movement, earthquake, volcanic eruption, etc? What was the plate tectonic setting?

3. Discuss the effect on society.
