Infantile Autism

Scholarly Research Article Review Instructions

For this assignment you will review a single, scholarly PRIMARY Research article in the APUS Library and summarize what it says about a specific infant and toddler disorder of your choice (Infantile Autism, Tay-Sachs Disease, Sickle Cell Anemia and Cerebral Palsy are some examples). This 2-3 page paper must be a review of scholarly research, not commercial Psychology Today, Wikipedia or WebMD style publications or self-help or parent support organization material (the latter is very valuable to families in need of easy to digest and access information, but isn’t applicable to this assignment). Article must be recent within the past 5-7 years.

For this assignment you will review a single scholarly article in the APUS Online Library and summarize what it says about the specific topic that has been identified in the Assignment section of the classroom.  This 2-3 page paper must be a review of scholarly research, not commercial Psychology Today, Wikipedia or WebMD style publications or self-help or parent support organization material (the latter is very valuable to families in need of easy to digest and access information, but isn’t applicable to this assignment).

The introductory paragraph will give a brief description of the topic and the article that you will be reviewing.

The article summary will include the following: (NOTE: If you can’t find the elements listed in this section, then you have not chosen a research article.)

• Discussion of the focus of the research
 • Description of the hypothesis of the study
 • Description of how the study was conducted including the population that was studied, the methodology used  (i.e. naturalistic observation, experiment, case study, survey, etc). How the data was collected and analyzed
 • Description of the results of the study

Your review/discussion of the article will include

  • A discussion of the way the research was conducted and potential impact on results (e.g. problems with the study
methodology that might have affected its validity and/or generalizability).
  • A description of three ideas inspired in you by the article.
  • A description of the use, impact, or potential the research might have.

You don’t have to be a professional expert to write this section. Think about it this way–if you were someone working with children facing the challenges of the disorder you selected to read about and report on, what would you want future researchers to keep investigating that you believe could prove valuable to sufferers and their families? For example, a medical professional or psychologist might be interested in having researchers continue to study how broad a particular diagnostic classification spectrum needs to be to avoid catching too many and too few kids in the diagnostic net (it goes without saying that we would love to be able to diagnose accurately 100% of the time and cure everyone, but we will leave that off the table since it should be everyone’s goal and anyone reading about a disorder could have that cross his/her mind).

For this type of academic paper scholarly publications from the APUS online library must be used. Why is the APUS online library required? Scholarly sources are found in academic journals (The Journal of… is a good tip for identifying these) and the APUS online library has a very large set of holdings and a staff of librarians to assist. You can connect with both by clicking the Library link while logged into your classroom. Other university libraries also carry such journals but online access is frequently restricted to those universities’ enrolled students. Hard copies from traditional “brick-and-mortar” libraries cannot be used unless you can also provide an online copy to verify the article’s existence in digital format. This is because your instructor needs to be able to verify that you are using actual published journal articles, the journals they are published in, their dates of publication and their authors. Although some of the following may be accessed through links in the APUS online library, popular magazines, Wikipedia, About.com, Ask.com, newspapers, blogs or other opinion-based publications may not be used. Not all articles found in the databases are scholarly.  If you are unsure about the appropriateness of a resource, check with your instructor before using it for your assignment. The source for your article must be cited in the paper body and listed in APA style in a page entitled “References” attached separately to the end of your paper. (HINT: since this is a review of a single scholarly article, your reference page will only contain only SINGLE source. Do not incorporate any information outside of this SINGLE source.) The Online Library contains and excellent discussion on identifying scholarly articles in the Tutorial and Student Studies Center.

APA style can be a bit like learning a second language.  http://owl.english.purdue.edu/workshops/hypertext/apa/index.html is an excellent practical, how-to guide to this formatting style. Your classroom Resources folder also contains APA formatting guides.

You don’t need to have an abstract, as is typically required for APA style, for this paper but you must include an APA formatted cover page in addition to the References page mentioned above. The 2-3page requirement does not include the cover or reference pages and the paper must be formatted in Times New Roman or Arial font no larger than size 12 with 1” margins on all sides of the paper body and double spaced. Length compliance is determined using these formatting rules in grading the work. Formatting will be checked on your instructor’s end and a paper that falls short of the required length submitted in large font or with wide margins will receive a point deduction of 10% for each missing page. Be careful to check your work for proper formatting and other instructions compliance before submitting. Revisions cannot be allowed after students are notified via grading feedback of these problems.

Your paper must be written at a college level. This means a minimum amount (nobody often achieves perfection) of spelling and grammar errors that don’t get in the way of following your points; no use of personal first or second person pronouns (“I” or “you”) in your article summary; no personal story sharing or creative writing style wording (papers that begin with a question or “Imagine for a moment that…” or “Webster’s Dictionary defines _____ as…” style openers are fine for some courses but not for this assignment. Simply start with, “This paper focuses on ________” with the topic of your paper in the blank space, and then move on to summarizing the findings of the publication you cite in the paper and the other required elements).

The 2nd part of your paper will include your review/discussion of the article as outlined previously. This section of your paper may include first person writing. Please be sure that your article summary is clear and distinct from your review of the article. Do not intermingle the two sections of your paper.

Nursing and the family aging DQ week 1 student reply

APA less than 10 % similarity

The following post is from another student. reply by adding some extra information related to the post.

short answer

One of the most common misconceptions about elderly hold by society is their sexuality. A relatively large group of population think that shaving an active sexual life is inappropriate for older adults.  According to British Medical Journal survey, adults over 70 years are not only able to practice sexual intercourse more often that other generation but also to fully enjoy of their sexuality. (Beckman, Waern, Gustafson, & Skoog, 2008).

Misconceptions can really affect the older population. Aging process leads to some insecurities such as feeling less attractive or the fair to fail in bed. Once the elderly become old, they see their selves as being unattractive. Therefore, depression is very common during this stage of life. Older adults start to feel not useful and very limited since the physical limitations normal in the aging process don’t allow them to do the things they used to.

Some of the symptoms of depression that are tiredness, insomnia, and mood changes. It is important to identify them to prevent it so it can be treated correctly and avoid further complications. In addition, other medical conditions can also develop depression symptoms such as heart disease, or stroke. It also important to pay attention to the side effects of medications and polysubstance abuse, they can also develop depression  (“NIMH » Depression: What You Need To Know”, 2015).

Respond to at least two of your colleagues* on two different days by suggesting additional opportunities or recommendations for overcoming the challenges described by your colleagues.

The Role of the RN/APRN in Policy Evaluation

Respond to TO THIS POST by suggesting additional opportunities or recommendations for overcoming the challenges described by your colleagues.

This is the post to respond to.

There are opportunities that exist for RNs and APRNs to actively participate in policy review.. One opportunity that exists for RNs and APRNs is to become a member of a professional nursing organization such as the American Nurses Association or the American Cancer Society. Often times, nurses are not motivated to participate in policy because there are many individuals writing policies that do not have health care knowledge and it can be intimidating to work with them. According to Matthews (2012), “Members and experts from many specialty organizations work with ANA lobbyists in the U.S. Congress and the various state legislatures to inform and persuade legislators concerning the needs of nursing and the general public regarding healthcare issues and quality care.

Another opportunity that exists to become involved in policy review for RNs and APRNs is to become a member of your state nurses association. Many state nurses associations hold positions for nurses to be a part of reviewing different health care policies. The challenge that is posed by this type of involvement in policy review is that it is a time consuming position and it can be difficult to balance that and a full time RN or APRN job. According to the Delaware Nursing Association (n.d), “DNA takes appropriate action whenever necessary to recommend and/or promote legislation (including statutory and administrative laws, executive policies standards, regulations, rulings, and legal decisions) which affect the interest of healthcare consumers, the nursing professional and support the mission and goals of DNA. The advocacy committee is charged with monitoring and participating in policy related to health care, the workplace, patient care, and many other areas where nurses are engaged”.

I believe that the opportunities that are available for RNs and APRNs to become more involved in policy review should be advocated by employers and by state boards of nursing. Employers should promote and foster the relationship of its nursing staff becoming more involved in health care policy making and review. After all, nurses are on the front lines and have a great deal of knowledge to share when it comes to policies in health care. According to Burke (2016), “More than ever, nurses are present in every healthcare setting and possess a unique role in formulating policy”.

Even though parts of the title sound the same as units that you have previously completed, there is significant difference in the knowledge and skills components of the units. What this means, is there will be assessment items you will need to undertake to close any gaps identified during the mapping process in order for you to meet the outcomes for the new Diploma of Nursing.
Seek help and advice from your Educator on any part of any assessment that you need assistant with.
Assessment process
Your Assessor must discuss their feedback with you and ask you to sign the assessment summary acknowledging agreement with the result. If you have been found Not Yet Competent, the assessor will provide you with feedback explaining why this decision has been made and what you are required to do before being re-assessed. If you disagree with the assessor’s judgement, the assessor must explain the appeal process and provide you with any relevant documentation. The assessor will find a mutually convenient time to discuss any questions or concerns you have regarding your ability to complete the assessments. The assessor will also consider whether any additional support services should be provided to support you. If the assessor deems that you do not have the skills or knowledge to complete the unit, they will discuss this with The RTO Operations Manager.
• You are entitled to two assessment attempts at no additional cost.
• Each re-assessment attempt will be negotiated with the Assessor and should be programmed to enable you to have the best chance for success.
• Your Trainer/Assessor will provide you with direction on the further learning required for your next assessment attempt, this may involve additional theory or classroom learning.
• Your Assessor may apply reasonable adjustment to the subsequent assessment attempts, where required.
• At the end of your second unsuccessful assessment attempt, a formal counselling session will occur to discuss your options and enrolment at CTA.
• Post this process, you may re-enrol, and the learning and assessment process will commence from the beginning of the unit
Process for submitting assessments
Your Training Plan and Class Delivery schedule specifically outlines the due dates of each of your assessments. You must adhere to this timetable. If you need extra time to complete an assessment you must discuss this with your Nurse Educator before the due date. Extensions to assessments can be granted in agreement with you, your Nurse Educator and where applicable the RTO General Manager. The following requirements apply to all written assessments:
• All questions must be answered in full and using your own words.
• Hand written assessments must be legible and in either BLUE or BLACK pen.
• Assessments can be word processed. You must use:
? Arial font
? Size 12
? 1.5 spacing
? Print off a copy and hand to your Educator
• Assessments using white out corrective tape or fluid will be returned for resubmission. Cross out any incorrect answer and rewrite it.
• If submitting extra information, diagrams, posters, flyers or handouts make sure your name and number, date and the unit code is clearly identified on each piece of extra information.
• Where applicable reference any work that is not your own using the style described in the student handbook.
• Where applicable create a bibliography at the back of your work to show where you have accessed information used in your assessment.
• It is advisable that you make a copy of your fully completed Assessment Workbook before you submit it. CTA are required to keep all of your assessments so it will not be returned to you.
Outcomes:
Once you have a “Satisfactory Outcome” for all assessments linked to each unit of competency you will be deemed competent for the unit of competency.
If you have a “Not Satisfactory Outcome” your Assessor will provide feedback to you on the area/s for improvement and confirm further requirements. At this time a mutually agreed future date for re-assessment will be set.
Listed below are explanations of the assessment decisions an Assessor can make when marking your assessments.
Satisfactory
Outcome The Assessor has assessed your submission against the criteria of the Assessment and is satisfied that all requirements have been met.
Not Satisfactory Outcome The Assessor has assessed your submission against the criteria of the Assessment and is not satisfied that all requirements have been met.
All CTA Assessors follow the Principles of Assessment when assessing your work. What this means to you is that they will always treat every assessment submission objectively (fairly) and without bias, they can make alternative assessment arrangements if need be (flexible), they will only assess what you have submitted (valid), and will use the assessment criteria in the Assessor Marking guide when making their decision (reliable).
Assessors also follow the Rules of Evidence when making the assessment decision. What that means to you is they will make sure the evidence you have submitted is relevant to the assessment (valid), that the evidence you have given covers all of the questions asked (sufficient), that the assessment is your own work (authentic), and that the evidence is recent or from the very recent past (current).
Reasonable Adjustment
To meet the Principles of Assessment, Assessors may make a reasonable adjustment to the assessment. In some cases this may mean that verbal questions may be asked instead of written questions if a student has a literacy difference which would make it difficult for them to complete the assessment under normal circumstances. If you are struggling with the assessment processes outlined in this workbook, then it is highly recommended that you discuss this with your Trainer/Assessor as soon as practicable, however it should be before you attempt any assessment.
Overview of assessment
This unit of competency is predominantly assessed using a project approach. Assessment will focus on your own workplace environment. To demonstrate your competency, you must complete all assessments included in this document. This assessment includes:
• Written Questions – These questions assess your required knowledge and research skills. Whilst it is expected that you will refer to their learning material and secondary research all responses must be in your own words.
• Project– This assessment allows you to apply your skills and knowledge in a practical project, it may be a case study, role play, workplace project or other relevant task that helps you prove your ability to demonstrate how you apply your skills.
Students Please Note:
A zero tolerance to cheating and plagiarism is taken by CTA
If you, the student are found to have cheated on any forms of assessment, including plagiarism of another’s work, you will be required to re-sit an alternative assessment under the supervision of an assessor to confirm competence in this unit or you may face expulsion from the course.
Student Instructions
You must complete all of the following tasks of this workbook. You may work in groups or individually to complete the activities, this must be discussed and agreed to by your Educator. To demonstrate your understanding of the knowledge content, answers must be contextualised and in your own words.
