Choose any of the recent emerging / reemerging infectious disease discussed in your textbook (for example: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS – 2002-2003), Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)- 2015-2018), Avian influenza, H1N1 Influenza (Swine Flu) Pandemic – 2009-2010, Novel Avian influenza A (H7N9) Virus 2013-2017, West Nile Virus, Lyme Disease, Escherichia Coli, Tuberculosis, Ebola virus disease, Zika virus disease).

Research Assignment # 2

Purpose

The student will choose (1) of the recent emerging / reemerging infectious disease (some examples were provided) to develop the research project. Also, the student will use given questions to guide the paper. 

General directions

1. You will submit one (1) paper as part of this assignment (individual assignment).

2. Your research paper must follow APA format according to Publication Manual American Psychological Association (APA) (6th ed.). Include a cover page and headings per 6th edition APA guidelines. 

3. The research paper should be minimum of 3 pages (not including the title or reference pages) – single spaced, Times New Roman, Size 12, and 5 references about the topic (3 must be peer-reviewed journal articles).

Dr. Justin Case has requested that you prepare educational information for the clinic staff on the State of Wisconsin public health reporting requirements; specifically, the Category I urgent and immediate health reporting requirements. Dr. Case would like this information to include a list of the Category I diseases as well as how to report the diseases.

Dr. Justin Case is interested in reviewing the state of Wisconsin COVID-19 data for the time period of March through July 2020. He would like this information presented through the use of Excel, using both numerical and chart illustrations.

Instructions:

• Research the state of Wisconsin COVID-19 data for March through July 2020. (Hint: The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Category I disease website is useful!).
• Present the data in a professional format using Excel.
  • Sheet 1 – The data; you may want to drill this down to the County level.
  • Sheet 2 – The chart(s). You may select the chart(s) you believe best reflects the data in a meaningful way to Dr. Case (Johnson Medical Clinic is located in Dane County).

You make a Tik Tok video on your day off, showing photos of a local celebrity that one of your colleagues in telemetry took care of. You figure that most of your contacts would never recognize him anyway. It’s your day off and your personal time, so no harm, no foul, right? 

Choose an ending to the scenario, and construct your paper based on those reflections. Choose one of the following outcomes: 

1. A HIPAA violation occurs, and client data is exposed to the media.

 2. A medication error has harmed a client. 

3. A technology downtime that impacts patient care occurs, and an error is made. 

4. A ransomware attack has occurred, and the organization must contemplate paying the ransom or lose access to patient data. 

 Research, compose, and type a scholarly paper based on the scenario provided by your faculty, and choose a conclusion scenario to discuss within the body of your paper. 

Reflect on lessons learned in this class about technology, privacy concerns, and legal and ethical issues and address each of these concepts in the paper. Consider the consequences of such a scenario. 

Do not limit your review of the literature to the nursing discipline only because other health professionals are using the technology, and you may need to apply critical thinking skills to its applications in this scenario. 

• Use Microsoft Word and APA formatting. Consult your copy of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, as well as the resources in Doc Sharing if you have questions (e.g., margin size, font type and size (point), use of third person, etc.).  • The length of the paper should be four to five pages, excluding the title page and the reference page. Limit the references to a few key sources (minimum of three required).

 • The paper will contain an introduction that catches the attention of the reader, states the purpose of the paper, and provides a narrative outline of what will follow (i.e., the assignment criteria). 

• In the body of the paper, discuss the scenario in relation to HIPAA, legal, and other regulatory requirements that apply to the scenario and the ending you chose. Demonstrate support from sources of evidence (references) included as in‐text citations.
